Roger Neil took his frist scared breath on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1967 at Devils Lake, ND the son of Benedict IronHawk Sr. and Elizabeth Lawrence. He was raised in the St. Michael’s District, rural Tokio and attended school at Little Flower School at St. Michael. He later studied mechanics at Lake Region State College. Roger never believed that phrase, “It’s broken and can’t be fixed.” He would spend hours tinkering, taking things apart and putting them back together and “fixing” them. He especially loved to work on cars and of course his mechanical skills were very helpful there. He loved the challenge that a car, any car and anyone’s car could present to him. Roger liked visiting with his family and was always joking around. On June 27th, 1992 he was united in marriage to Gaylene IronHawk and although the union did not last, they welcomed Roger IronHawk Jr. He was also a loving and caring father to his step children Galen Littlewind and Duane Twite. On February 14, 2000 he was united in marriage to Priscilla Desjarlais. He welcomed his step children Meranda and Brandin Fineday. This union later dissolved. Roger always had a special spot in his heart for his sweetheart and companion Volante Littlewind. He was a loving father to Shawn, Shannon, Shane and Sha Dogskin. He enjoyed the company of all his grandchildren. Roger’s illness presented many challenges as well and he was so thankful for the care and support his family showed to him these last few years, especially his niece, Tanya who cared for him in her home. May Roger rest in God’s peace, mercy and love. Roger leaves to mourn his passing. His son, Roger IronHawk, Jr. of Fort Totten; mother, Elizabeth Lawrence of St. Michael; step-father, Isaac Mallard also of St. Michael; sisters and brothers, Bessie IronHawk of Devils Lake, Bernadine Littlewind of Billings, Montana, Sharlene IronHawk (Quentin Yankton) also of St. Michael, Darlies IronHawk, Darcie IronHawk, Roudie IronHawk and Jason (Renae) IronHawk all of Devils Lake; step-brother, Raymond Mallard, St. Michael, ND; special niece, Tanya (Bernard) Rainbow of Devils Lake and special nephew, Michael (Julie) OneBear Jr.; special friend and companion Volante LIttlewind; step-sons Shawn Dogskin, Shannon Dogskin, Shane Dogskin, Sha Dogskin, Galen Littlewind and Duane Twite; adopted son Nathan Jones Jr.; adopted daughter Vivianna Blackcloud; uncle Josie (Clarice) Lawrence and many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and their families. Roger was preceded in death by his Dad, Benedict; brothers, Benedict Jr., Dwayne, Marvin and Myron IronHawk; grandparents, Andrew and Annie (Greywind) IronHawk and Henry and Lillie (Mebebeye) Lawrence; aunts, Celina IronHawk and Bertha DeMarce.
