Phyllis L. Sailor, 83 of Devils Lake, ND died on Sunday, January 9, 2011 at the Halstad Living Center in Halstad, Minnesota.
Funeral Services for Phyllis will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake. Rev. Jeff Nicla will officiate and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Friday from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Saturday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
Serving as Casket Bearers for Phyllis will be her grandchildren Trent Liska, Jason Schall, Cory Schall, Tonya Sailor, Jamie Sailor, Jeremiah Sailor, Brandon Sailor and Eric Sailor.
Music will be provided by Russell and Lynda Pearson.
Phyllis was born December 17, 1927 at home on the farm at Brinsmade, ND the daughter of Ted and Gina (Johnson) Tofsrud. She attended school in Brinsmade and graduated from the 8th grade. She then worked at Carlson’s Bakery in Devils Lake for several years.
In 1946, Phyllis was united in marriage to Ray L. Sailor in Crookston, MN. So that she could be home during the day with her children, Phyllis worked nights as a waitress when the children were growing up. She worked at the Two Spot and also Highway Host. She enjoyed cooking and baking; a wonderful cook. She would always say a “True Norwegian”. She was also the family Barber, always giving haircuts, even to the grandkids. Even as teenagers, the grandkids would have Grandmother cut their hair before going to a barber.
Phyllis’ love in life was her family and all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Phyllis and Ray were proud of their eight children and all their grandchildren.
Phyllis is survived by her children Margaret Liska of Hillsboro, ND, Marilyn Schall of Devils Lake, Ray Sailor Jr. of Chicago, Illinois, Bob Sailor and his wife Veronica also Devils Lake, Jim Sailor and his wife Julie, Devils Lake, Gary Sailor and his wife Mary of Hillsboro, Brian Sailor and his wife Julie, Devils Lake and Barry Sailor and his wife Karen, Devils Lake; Phyllis had twenty-two grandchildren and thirty-five great grandchildren; sister Arlene Powell of Spokane, Washington; sister-in-law Jerry Tofsrud also of Spokane; many nieces, nephews and their families and Phyllis’ many dear friends from Odd Fellows Village and Park Place.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray L. Sailor in 2003; brother Leroy Tofsrud of Spokane; son-in-law Peter Schall.
