Jason Matthew was born on April 13, 1973 at Devils Lake, ND the loving son of Odin and Joan (Kuntz) Gleason. Jason would call Tolna home for his entire life. This is where he was reared and educated, attending Tolna Public School and graduating from Tolna High School with the class of 1991. In high school, Jason participated in basketball, band, chorus and drama. As a senior, Jason joined the United States Army and in June of 1991 he began basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He was then stationed in Korea with the 82nd Airborne. He returned to the states and was stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina until his discharge from active duty on August 18, 1994. While at Fort Bragg, Jason participated in the ceremonial re-enactment of D-Day on the beaches of Normandy as a paratrooper. He felt very honored to be a part of that day.
Upon discharge, Jason returned to the farm at Tolna, rejoined his parents in the farming and ranching business and attended Lake Region State College for 2 years. In the summer of 1995, Jason met the love of his life and he and Roberta “Bobbi” Mock were united in marriage on December 23, 1995 at the Tolna Lutheran Church. They established their home on the family farm and Jason also worked for the National Guard part-time from 1999 to 2004. In 2004, Jason committed to the National Guard on a full-time basis and was presently serving with the 136 CSSB (Combat Sustainment Support Battalion) and held the rank of Sergeant First Class. However, being a part of the farming and ranching operation was a love that never took second place to other jobs.
Jason was a member of New Life Fellowship Church, rural Hamar, Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Lake Region Honor Guard.
Jason was passionate about many things in his life; faith, family, friends, farming and ranching, hunting-both bow and gun and NASCAR (Kevin Harvick-Car #29). It was his faith and his family and friends that sustained him through his battle with cancer and he leaves that as his legacy to sustain those who he leaves behind.
Jason is survived by his devoted and loving family: his wife, Bobbi; children, Tyler, Daniel and Mackenzie Gleason at home in Tolna and step children, Larissa and Levi Heil of Minot; parents, Odin and Joan Gleason of Tolna; mother-in-law, Sharon Malcomb of Minot, ND; brothers, Jeff Gleason of Minneapolis, Kenyon (Stacey) Gleason of Dell Rapids, South Dakota and Derek (Shanna) Gleason also of Minneapolis; brothers-in-law, Jeff (Natalie) Mock of Minot, ND, Robby (Wendy) Mock of Devils Lake and Wally (Deb) Mock also of Minot; nephews and nieces, Jackson, Casey, Micah, Tayte, Peyton, Zoe; Shayla, Otto, Kay, Karly, Shayann, Krysta, Kody, Abby, Denise, Jesse and China; Grandma Maxine; many aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.
Jason was preceded in death by his grandparents, Leif and Rachel Gleason and George E. and Johanna Kuntz; father-in-law, Robert Mock and niece, Kayla Mock.
