Ruth M. Allery, 89 of Devils Lake, ND formerly of Aberdeen, South Dakota passed away on Thursday February 10, 2011, at Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake under the care of Mercy Hospice and the staff of Heartland Care Center.
Mass of Christian Burial for Ruth will be Tuesday February 15, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Michael’s Catholic Church, St. Michael, ND with Father Charles Leute celebrating the Mass. Burial will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery in the spring.
Visitation will be at Saint Michael’s Catholic Church on Monday February 14, 2011 beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Rosary Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Tuesday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass.
Ruth Miranda Folstad was born November 10, 1921 to Gustave (Gus) and Annie Pederson Folstad at home in rural Oberon, ND She grew up and attended country school in the Oberon area. She attended high school at Ft. Totten, ND.
She married Leo E. Allery on June 25, 1943. Leo was in the U.S. Army at the time and was called off to war. While he was away serving his country Ruth lived with Leo’s parents and her parents.
After Leo was discharged from the Army, Ruth and Leo moved to Wood Lake, ND. where, over time, Leo built the family home. Their union was blessed with eight children. Church and community were important to Ruth, but her whole life revolved around her family. She loved to entertain her children with her great ability to sing, yodel, and dance.
Ruth worked at Saint Michael Indian Mission (Little Flower School) during the late 1950's and into the 1960's where she took care of the priest house and also patched up kids in the infirmary. She then went to work at Sioux Manufacturing Corporation starting in March of 1974 until her retirement in October of 1987.
Ruth spent the past 4 years in Aberdeen to be close to family. She loved her apartment at the Carlyle and made many special friends there. She especially enjoyed a good game of whist and an occasional game of bingo.
Ruth enjoyed a wonderful long life. In her later years she was able to do some traveling which she thoroughly enjoyed. She instilled Christian values in her children and was a positive influence on many young lives. Ruth leaves behind many wonderful and happy memories which will be cherished by her family.
Surviving Ruth are Mary Ann Allery, Aberdeen,SD Gene (Rene) Allery, Aberdeen,SD,Diane Shanley, Sells, AZ, Ruth Ann Allery, Albuquerque, NM, Annette (Lawren)Borstad, Spicer, MN, JoAnne (Bob) Monette, Devils Lake, ND, Jerry (Rhonda) Allery, Woodlake, ND. There are twenty-one grandchildren and twenty-seven great grandchildren. Also surviving is her special friend and care giver Clara Nolz of Aberdeen, they were truly the best of buddies and had many good times together.
Ruth was preceded in death by her sister Helmina, her parents Gustave and Annie Folstad, her husband Leo Allery Sr.,her son Leo Allery Jr. and her great grandson Travis Roland Pourier.
Casket Bearers for Ruth will be her grandsons.
Honorary Bearers are her friends at the Carlyle Apartments in Aberdeen, SD
