Isabelle Svidal, 94 a lifelong resident of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake.
Funeral Services for Isabelle will be held on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake with burial in the Devils Lake Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and on Wednesday at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
Music will be provided by Lynne Webster and Lynda Pearson.
Isabelle was born in Devils Lake, ND on November 24, 1916, the daughter of Peter and Sarah (Easthouse) Hagen. She attended Devils Lake Central High School, graduating as Valedictorian in 1935.
Isabelle was united in marriage to Ludvig Svidal on August 18, 1940. They made their home in Devils Lake where Isabelle worked for Dr. Glenn Toomey and later for Ottertail Power Company. Ludvig died in 1998.
Isabelle was active in the community and was a 4-H Leader for many years. She also belonged and was active in the Devils Lake Art Association, Devils Lake Quilters and St. Olaf Lutheran Church. She was named an Unsung Hero in 1998. Isabelle became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in 2008.
Isabelle is survived by her daughter Nan and husband Joe Yager of Devils Lake; son Robert Svidal and wife Christine of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; sister Blanche Webster also Devils Lake; grandchildren, Amy (Dean) Bachmeier, Fargo, Eric (Sarah) Yager, Devils Lake, Saraye (Lance) Forsberg, Devils Lake and Lisa Yager, Grand Forks and Becky (David) Englesman, Durango, Colorado, Linda (John) Delisle, Salisbury, North Carolina, Elizabeth (Dave) Darwin, Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; eleven great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; brother-in-law Vernon Svidal, Devils Lake; sisters-in-law Margaret Ayers, The Sea Ranch, California and Jeanette McPhail and husband, David also Devils Lake.
Isabelle was preceded in death by her parents; brother Joseph Hagen; sisters-in-law Alice Wiley, Agnes Dunn and Grace Svidal; brothers-in-law Cliff Svidal, Earl Webster, Jim Ayers, Joe Dunn and Bob Wiley.
