Mary Ann Senger

Mary Ann Senger, 93, longtime Devils Lake resident, died Thursday February 24, 2011 at Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake, ND, surrounded by her children. Visitation will be at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Sunday, February 27, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:00pm with the Rosary led by the Catholic Daughters. Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10:30am Monday, February 28, 2011 at St Joseph’s Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Visitation on Monday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass. Serving as Casket Bearers for Mary will be James Volk, Brian Volk, John Archer, Jerrold Maggard Jr., Jimmy Maggard, Jim Olesen, Brandon Weiser and Aron Castro. Reading the Scriptures will be Richard Volk. Gift Bearers will be Wanda Archer, Lori Weiser and Deb Olesen. Eucharistic Ministers will be Edward and Emma Senger. Music will be provided by Kevin Regan and JoDee Lagein. Mary Ann (Axtman) Senger was born May 7, 1917 in Balta, ND, daughter of Wendelin and Evelyn (Koble) Axtman. She was raised in Southam, ND. She worked various places including the ND School for the Deaf. On October 10, 1939, she wed Joseph Phillip Senger at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Devils Lake, ND. They farmed for many years in the Devils Lake and Lawton areas. They retired from farming in 1967 and moved to Linton, ND to operate a Coast to Coast Store. They returned to Devils Lake in September of 1970. Mary Ann worked at Coast to Coast, the ND School for the Deaf and various other jobs before retiring. Mary Ann is survived by 5 children. Son, Edward (Emma) Senger, Santa Maria, CA; daughters: Kathleen (Richard) Volk, Webster, ND; Johanna Maggard, Rapid City, SD; Mary Jane (Kenny) Volk, Moorhead, MN, and Shirley Faber, Bismarck, ND; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. Also, surviving are one brother, Joe Axtman, Minot, ND and one sister, Kathryn Hermann, Devils Lake, many nieces and nephews, and numerous Senger and Axtman sisters-in law and brothers-in law. We let her go back into the arms of her husband Joe (April 17, 1989), her mother, father, grandson, Allen Volk, granddaughter, Carol Ann Maggard, son-in-law, John Faber; sisters and brother-in-laws, Caroline Axtman, Margaret (Harry) Krietz, Christine (Albert) Ricker, Theresa (Ralph) Feierer, Lena (Bill) Haugen, Charles Hermann and brothers, Thomas Axtman, Michael Axtman and Kenneth Axtman. May she rest in peace in heaven, which she certainly deserves.
