Cynthia Ann Poor Bear, 63 of St. Michael, ND passed away early Monday morning, March 14, 2011 at her home in St. Michael, ND. Mass of Christian Burial for Cynthia will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, St. Michael, ND. Fr. Brian Moen will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery in the spring. Visitation for Cynthia will be on Friday, beginning at 5:00 p.m. at St. Michael’s Recreation Center, St. Michael. At 8:00 p.m. the Rosary and Scripture Service will be held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with visitation until 10:00 p.m. in the church. The procession to St. Michael’s Recreation Center will leave at 4:00 p.m. from Wal-Mart. Serving as Active Pallbearers for Cynthia will be Perry “Box” Cavanaugh, Paul Cavanaugh, Marcus Curley, Michael Buckles, Joseph Blackboy Jr. and RaShawn Thompson. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Devils Lake Renal Dialysis Staff, CHR Staff, all Spirit Lake Tribal Elderly, Spirit Lake Ambulance, members of the Native American Church and all of Cynthia’s many friends, relatives and everyone who was touched by Cynthia’s kindness and gentle spirit. Cynthia Ann was born on January 22, 1948 at Fort Totten, ND the daughter of Gordon and Ida (Mathion) Poor Bear. She attended elementary school at Wahpeton, North Dakota and high school in Flandreau, South Dakota, where she graduated. She then attended a nursing school in Texas. She later returned to North Dakota and worked at Sioux Manufacturing for many years and also the Bingo Palace until she was forced to retire due to health problems. Cynthia always had her biggest smile and happiest moments when she was spending time with her children and grandchildren and meeting friends and family at the Casino. Cynthia’s struggles and health problems were many, but they never overshadowed her love for her family. Cynthia is survived by her daughters, Vanessa (Mark) Cavanaugh and Mary (James) Cavanaugh and son, Percy Cavanaugh all of St. Michael; grandchildren, Marcus Curley, Jerrica Curley, Ariel Cavanaugh, Marissa Littleghost, Ashton Littleghost and Trinity Littleghost; RaShawn Thompson, Porsha Thompson, Taylor Thompson, Cameron Thompson and Paris Thompson; Amber LoveJoy and Lance Cavanaugh; great granddaughter, Miley Curley; special friend of 18 years, Zachary Thompson and many nieces and nephews also survive. Cynthia was preceded in death by her infant son, Llewellyn Vaughn Poor Bear; parents, Gordon and Ida; brothers, Patrick, Robert, James and Joe Poor Bear; sisters, Elizabeth, Emma, Martha and Viola (Brown) Poor Bear; great granddaughters, Izabelle Lyn Alberts and Desiree Brown; granddaughter, Kyra Poor Bear; cousins, William, Eddie, Leslie and Stephanie Waanatan and Barbara and Timothy Chaske.
