Carolyn L. Thorson, 69 of Hampden, ND passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral Services for Carolyn will be held on Monday, March 28, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Zoar Free Lutheran Church, Hampden, ND. Rev. Craig Wentzel will officiate and burial will be in the family plot at the Edmore Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Sunday beginning at 1:00 p.m. with a Time of Remembrance at 5:00 p.m.
Serving as Honorary Bearers will be Lee Werner, Ed Werner, Randy Ivesdal, Jesse Hermanson, Jordan Hermanson and Ronnie Martinson.
Carolyn Lee, loving daughter of Sigurd and Olive (Thorson) Ivesdal was born on October 22, 1941 at Devils Lake, ND. She was raised in the rural Hampden/Edmore area and attended school at Hampden, graduating from Hampden High School with the class of 1959. She attended Mayville State Teacher’s College and received her teaching certificate. Her first teaching position was at Terry, Montana.
Carolyn married Victor Pintar Sr. in 1963. They established their home in Detroit, Michigan and Carolyn was employed as a substitute teacher. In 1970, Carolyn returned to the Hampden area and was united in marriage to Larry Thorson in 1972. They moved to a farm in rural Hampden and began farming. Carolyn later worked in the Hampden Public School system and taught Kindergarten.
From 1980 to 1984, Carolyn was the owner and operator of Mall Market. After selling the business, she worked at various jobs in Cando and Hampden. Most recently Carolyn volunteered at the Hampden Café. Carolyn was an active member of Zoar Free Lutheran Church, the Ladies Aide and the Hampden Commercial Club.
Carolyn had many hobbies and pastimes. She loved puzzles-jigsaw and crossword and was an avid reader. She had become quite savey on the computer and used face book to keep up with current events and activities of family and friends.
Carolyn had to battle health problems for several years and fought those battles with courage but her priority was always her family and her unconditional love for them all.
Carolyn is survived by her beloved children Victor Pintar Jr. and his wife Wendy of Cando, ND, Michelle and her husband Dwight Logie of Hampden and Scott Thorson of Devils Lake; grandchildren Jesse, Megan, Jared and Codie and Amber, Cassie and Brenna and great grandson Gavin; brothers and sister Sheldon Ivesdal and his wife Pauline of Great Falls, Montana, Ione and her husband Larry Werner of Hampden and Tom Ivesdal of Coon Rapids, Minnesota; her uncle George (Lova) Ivesdal of Hutchinson, Minnesota; many nieces, nephews and their families also survive.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and infant sister Nola.
