Rosella “Sally” G. Thompson, 82 of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Monday, April 11, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake with her loving family at her side.
Funeral Services for Sally will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Devils Lake. Rev. Jamie Desai will officiate and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Friday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Time of Remembrance and Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m.
Serving as Casket Bearers for Sally will be her grandchildren Jaret Thompson, Josh Thompson and Alexandra Thompson-Eagle, her brothers Everett Aarestad and Casper Aarestad, her godson Endre Aarestad and honorary bearer, her granddaughter Cassie Woolhiser.
Music will be provided by Janice and David Vigesaa, vocalists
Rosella G. Aarestad was born on June 13, 1928 on the family farm at Cooperstown, ND the daughter of Casper and Caspara (Carlson) Aarestad. She grew up on a farm south of Cooperstown and Pillsbury, ND. Sally graduated from Cooperstown High School in 1946. She continued her education at St. Luke’s School of Nursing, Fargo, ND and graduated as a Registered Nurse with the class of 1949.
Sally was united in marriage to James R. Thompson on December 28, 1949 on the family farm in Cooperstown. Sally worked as a nurse in Missoula, Montana, Fargo, Cooperstown, Cavalier, Mayville, Grafton where she served as the Director of Nursing and also in Devils Lake as an instructor in the nursing program at Lake Region Junior College. Sally retired in 1983.
Sally was a devoted wife and mother raising her three children, James, Nancy and Paul. Besides being very proud of her three children and spending much time with them, Sally found time to plant trees for the Soil Conservation District, garden at home, quilt at the church and with the Quilters Guild, golf, play bridge and cook. Her talents were many and they brought her joy and the chance to be with friends and family.
Sally was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Eastern Star, serving as a past Worthy Matron, Quilters Guild and both the Grafton and Devils Lake Curling Clubs.
She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, James; her children James C. Thompson and his wife Peach of Houston, Texas, Nancy D. Thompson and her husband Dale Woolhiser of Missoula, Montana and Paul J. Thompson and his wife Amy of Devils Lake; four grandchildren Alexandra (Joel) Thompson-Eagle; Cassie Woolhiser; Jaret Thompson and Josh Thompson; sisters and brothers Audrey Hammer of St. Regis, Montana, Everett (Becky) Aarestad of Superior, Montana, Janice (David) Vigesaa of Billings Montana and Casper (Elaine) Aarestad Jr. of Cooperstown, ND; many nieces, nephews and their families also survive.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents; half-brother Harland Strand and half-sister Lorraine Barr.
