William “Bill” Trottier Sr. 95 of Devils Lake formerly of St. John, ND passed away on Friday, May 27, 2011 at the Rolette Community Care Center, Rolette, ND with family at his side.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Wednesday from 12:00 noon until 4:00 p.m. and at St. Joachim Catholic Church, Rolla, ND on Wednesday evening from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Thursday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass.
Mass of Christian Burial for Bill will be held at St. Joachim Catholic Church on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. with Fr. Jake Miller celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Devils Lake.
Serving as Casket Bearers for Bill will be Patrick DeMers, Gregg DeMers, Barry Trottier, Jamie Trottier, Chuckie Longie and Mike Longie.
Music will be provided by Kevin Jeannotte.
Reading the Scriptures will be Zachary DeMers and Gift Bearers will be Mike and Annie DeMers.
William, one of fourteen children of Napoleon and Bibian (Slater) Trottier was born on October 6, 1915 at St. John, ND where he grew up and was educated. He was at one time married to Evelyn Wilkie and they established their home in the Belcourt area where Bill worked as a farm laborer for several area farmers.
Bill moved to Devils Lake and made this his home for many years. He worked at Monteith’s Meat Service Inc. for many years and also worked for Ed Lauinger Grain Bin Builders. After retiring, he continued to make Devils Lake his home until moving to the Rolette Care Center in 2010 to be closer to his children. Bill was united in marriage to Cecelia Gladue on June 26, 1952 at Devils Lake and they made a life together for 46 years until her death on July 2, 2002.
Bill lived to fish and this was a pastime he enjoyed with Cecelia and his family for many years. He enjoyed going for coffee and getting in a few card games with his friends. You couldn’t take the country out of Bill so frequently you would catch him at the Livestock Ring for the weekly sale or out at the Trottier Turkey Farm. In his younger days, Bill enjoyed playing his fiddle for family and friends.
Bill is survived by his children Yvonne and her husband Robert DeMers of Dunseith, ND and William Trottier Jr. and his wife Claudia of Rolla, ND; step-children Cynthia Longie of Devils Lake, Lauren Ann DeCory and Raymond Longie; eleven grandchildren Mike (Annie) DeMers, Ronald (Shelly) DeMers, Patrick DeMers, Gary (Lori) DeMers, Larry (Barbara) DeMers, Gregg DeMers and Lisa (Brad) Livesay and Barry (Candy) Trottier, Carrie Ebel, Jamie Trottier and Janelle Trottier; twenty-four great grandchildren and ten great great grandchildren; many step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and their families. There are no surviving brothers and sisters.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; wife Cecelia; son Timothy Trottier Sr. and step-son Ronnie Longie.
