GLORIA R. BURKHARD

Gloria R. Burkhard, 74 of Devils Lake, ND died on Friday morning, June 10, 2011 at Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake with loving family at her side. Mass of Christian Burial for Gloria will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Fr. Dale Kinzler will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Wednesday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass. Serving as Casket Bearers for Gloria will be Delson Bull, John LeftBear, David Bender, Ward Thompson, Jim Ridley and Mark Enstad. Reading the Scriptures will be Gloria’s grandchildren Delson Bull and Holly Leftbear and serving as Altar Servers will be grandchildren, Kyle Gratton, Laura Ewert and Allison Ewert. Gift Bearers will be grandchildren Brady Burkhard and Nicole Bender. Gloria Roxanne, the daughter of Leif and Rachel (Tufto) Gleason was born on May 10, 1937 in Hamar, ND where she was raised and educated attending Hamar Public School. Gloria was united in marriage to Raymond Burkhard on November 17, 1961 in Devils Lake. They established their home in Devils Lake where they lived, worked and raised their family through the years. Gloria worked as a housekeeper at the Lake Region Lutheran Home for a number of years. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and the Eagles Auxiliary and served as President in 1983, 1984, 1989 and 1990. She was also a very active member of the Rebekah Lodge #9, serving as the President six times and was currently serving as President. She was also past president of the Grand Assembly of North Dakota in 2010. Gloria volunteered at the Senior Center and several other places, where she enjoyed calling Bingo. She loved to play Bingo and bake goodies for her family and friends. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and her dear family. Gloria was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Gloria is survived by her husband of 49 years, Raymond; daughter, Gaylene and her husband Lawrence Tollefson of Doyon, ND; sons, Tony Burkhard and his wife Vicky of Tompkinsville, Kentucky, Steven Burkhard and his wife Rose, Gene Burkhard and his wife Melissa and Rodney Burkhard and his wife Danyelle all of Devils Lake; seventeen grandchildren; three great grandchildren; sisters, Leona (Walter) Pederson of Fosston, Minnesota, Marlys Enstad of Barnesville, Minnesota and Esther Hackley of Hankinson, ND; brothers, Clifford Gleason and Odin (Joan) Gleason all of Tolna, ND; many nieces, nephews and their families also survive. Gloria was preceded in death by her parents Leif and Rachel; father-in-law and mother-in-law Anton and Katherine Burkhard; grandchild Dawn Burkhard; nephews Merlin Enstad, Jason Gleason and Jerry Ridley; infant brothers Lars and Russell and infant sister Edith.
