Arlin Raymond was born on December 6th, 1956 to Dennis and Rosie (Nagel) Wentz in Devils Lake. He grew up in the Doyon/Crary communities and graduated from Crary High School in 1975. He attended Lake Region College until entering the Army in 1976. He received Basic and Advance Individual Training in Fort Jackson, South Carolina. He then transferred to Fort Dix, New Jersey, where he worked as a security clerk until 1978.
Arlin’s next duty found him in Hawaii where he served as a specialist in the advertisement and sales promotion division on the U.S. Army recruiting. It was here that he met and married Alice Dugas in June of 1980. Shortly thereafter, he separated from the service. Arlin then went to work for Backman Seeds in Herman, Minnesota. During their two years there, daughter Christina was born on February 11, 1981.
Arlin then worked for Northern Seed and Feed in Devils Lake prior to reentering the Army in 1983. He was processed through Fort Leonardwood, Missouri, and was assigned to Fort Carson, Colorado, where their second daughter, Tami Jo, was born on July 5, 1984. Arlin was sent back to Hawaii that year as a property book specialist until 1988 when he transferred to Fort Lee, Virginia. Arlin separated from the service in 1989 and went to work as an underground fuel tank liner for F.W. Baird Co. for one year. Then, he and his daughters moved back to Devils Lake. Arlin then worked as a building supervisor for Nordic Fiberglass Inc. until he resigned due to health reasons.
Arlin’s greatest joy was following his daughters’ successes. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and found his serenity in spending time in the Stanley, ND, area with his sister and her family, working to help plant and harvest their crops. Throughout his life, Arlin enjoyed music, playing guitar, and performing with several different bands. He often shared with pride that his band, Arlin Wentz-N-the Freeland Express, had opened for George Jones and Tammy Wynette during his days in Hawaii.
Arlin is survived by his daughters, Christina and Tami Jo both of St. Cloud, MN; parents, Dennis and Rosie Wentz of Devils Lake; brothers, Marlin (Vickie) Wentz of Breckenridge, MN and Darrin Wentz of Fargo; sister, Denise (Kelly) Hanson of Stanley, ND; niece, Shanna (Jay) Muller, Fargo; nephews, Josh Wentz, Breckenridge and Wyatt and Rhett Hanson of Stanley. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
