On JULY 3, Heaven got a little bit sweeter. Leonard G. Boehmer, 83 of Edmore, ND passed away on Sunday afternoon, July 3, 2011 at the Heartland Care Center in the loving care of his family and Mercy Hospice. Funeral Services for Leonard will be held on Friday, July 8, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Concordia Lutheran Church, Edmore, ND. Pastor Jodi Myrvik and Pastor Craig Wentzel will officiate and burial will be in the Edmore Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the Neathery-Simensen Post #756, Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors Team and the John R. Ogilvie Post #8939, Edmore Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Johnson-Myrvik American Legion Post #193. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Thursday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m with a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation on Friday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Serving as Casket Bearers for Leonard will be Mark Brekke, Dale Walters, Tim Christopher, Lloyd Sanderson, Bryce Hoime, Dale Newgard, Doug Freije, Ralph Mackey, Craig Ketelsen and Jim Fuglie. Honorary Bearers will be Donnie Viger, Elmer Boesl, Leroy Howes, Allen Myrvik, John Burke, LeRoy Stensland, Curtis Myhre, Orville Bernhoft, Gary Sobak, Dean Skare, Robert Freije and Bud Dahlen. A very special thanks to Dave and Irene Levang. Eulogies by Jo Hirsch, Alicia Waind and a letter from Kayla Samuelson which will be read by her husband Erik. Music will be provided by Lori Niehaus, soloist and Pam Landsem, organist. Leonard Glenn Boehmer was born on August 31, 1927 at the farm home of his parents Peter and Sophia ( Aaberg ) Boehmer, near Edmore, ND. His family moved to Saskatchewan, Canada for a short time during the Great Depression, but returned to North Dakota. He attended Francher Township and Edmore Public Schools. He enlisted in the United States Air Force, and was stationed in California, Texas, and Hawaii. In the late 1940’s he returned to North Dakota to farm. He married DeLoris Adsem on June 23, 1951 in Hettinger ND. Even though Leonard loved farming, he found time to be very active contributing member in his community. He was a Trustee, Sunday School Teacher and the Janitor at the Concordia Lutheran Church in Edmore; and, a Bus Driver for the Edmore Public School. Leonard also served as Mayor of Edmore. He was a member of the Langdon Rural Water Board, and a board member for Farmer’s Home Administration. He was a member of organizations including The American Legion Post No. 0193 where he served as Commander in Chief; and Forty et Eight. Leonard and DeLoris resided on a number of farms in the Edmore area. They lived on the Boehmer Homestead Farm until purchasing and moving to the “old Lutheran Parsonage” in 1973. In November of this past year Leonard moved to Parkwood Place Apartments at Altru in Grand Forks. In June he moved to Heartland Care Center in Devils Lake, ND until he entered into God’s Kingdom on July 3, 2011. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters Mae, June, Pauline, Laureen and Phyllis; and his brothers Glen, Herbert and Jack; his niece Carolyn Myhre and his grandchildren Joshua and Megan Boehmer. Survivors include: his wife DeLoris of Edmore; his son James Boehmer and his girlfriend Karla Atkinson of Edmore; his daughters Margo Allard and her husband Richard Allard of Grand Forks; Judie Boehmer and her husband John Lydon of Sacramento, California; his grandchildren Kimberly Allard of Grand Forks; Jess Allard of Grand Forks; Alicia Waind and her husband Michael Waind of Grand Forks; Kayla Samuelson and her husband Eric Samuelson of Devils Lake; Samuel Boehmer and his fiancé’ Brandi Sobolik of Park River; his great grand children Alyssa Allard, Taylor and Zander Waind.
