Arnold J. Bosch, 77 of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at his home from natural causes.
Mass of Christian Burial for Arnold will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake on Monday, July 11, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. Fr. Dale Kinzler will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the Neathery-Simensen Post #756, Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors Team.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 5:00 p.m. Visitation on Monday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass.
Arnold James was born on March 30, 1934 at Devils Lake, ND the son of Michael and Katherine (Senger) Bosch. He grew up on the family farm in Cato Township and attended the Cato Township Country School through the 8th grade. The family then moved to a farm in the Warwick area and Arnold completed his education there, graduating from Warwick High School with the class of 1952. The family then moved to Devils Lake and Arnold worked at Behm’s Propane.
Arnold entered the United States Army in 1958 and served stateside until 1960 when he received a medical discharge. After his honorable discharge, Arnold returned to Devils Lake and after taking an electrical course by correspondence he began working for Nelson’s M&I Electric.
Arnold was united in marriage to LaVina Leiphon on July 20, 1968 at Devils Lake where they established their home and lived and worked and raised the family through the years. LaVina passed away on February 21, 1998.
What had started out as just a family pastime of playing the accordion, drums and guitar with his brothers would eventually end up a career in music. Arnold, Ray Kraft and Alvin Peyerl put all their musical talents together and became the “Sky Larks-The Band that’s in demand”. They entertained in the Devils Lake area for many years.
Arnold loved to visit with family whenever possible. He had several different sets of “coffee buddies” at the Cedar Inn, depending on what time of the day; because Arnold sometimes went to coffee 2 and 3 times a day. Arnold was a unique person and will be missed by his family and friends because of his uniqueness.
Arnold is survived by his children Clint DeVier (fiance' Cherilyn Strande) of Devils Lake and Connie Nagel (Scott) of Otsego, Michigan; grandchildren Tanner Mattern, Shyler Mattern and Jory Nagel; brothers and sisters Joe (Marie) Bosch, Mike (Loidah) Bosch all of Devils Lake, Paul (Isabelle) Bosch of Sebeka, Minnesota, George (Pat) Bosch of Garrison, ND, Ed (Ellie) Bosch of Minot, ND, Emma Miller of Lakota, Mary (Ed) Lauinger and Marge (Henry) Lange also all of Devils Lake; many nieces, nephews and their families also survive.
Arnold was preceded in death by his parents; wife, LaVina; grandson Trevor Mattern; brother Anton Bosch and sisters Leona Nelson and Regina Chepulis.
