Lois M. Skrede, 80 of Devils Lake, ND was found deceased in her home on Friday, July 15, 2011. Mass of Christian Burial for Lois will be held on Thursday, July 21, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake, ND. Fr. Dale Kinzler will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in the Methodist Cemetery, rural Starkweather, ND. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Thursday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass. Casket Bearers for Lois will be Jack Peterson, Shane Peterson, Lance Peterson, Scott Nelson, Steven Rohrer and Kent Rohrer. Reading the Scriptures will be Steven Rohrer and music will be provided by Sherry Kurtz and JoDee Lagein. Lois, the daughter of Francis and Josephine (Schnetter) McNabb was born on March 13, 1931 at Devils Lake, ND where she was reared and educated. Lois graduated from St. Mary’s Academy with the class of 1949. After graduation, Lois worked as a long distance switchboard operator for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. She moved to Hollywood, California where she met and married Gordon R. Skrede another North Dakota native from Starkweather on July 2, 1952 in Los Angeles, California. They made their home in California for thirteen years then returned to Devils Lake, ND where they lived and worked through the years. Gordon passed away on October 29, 1991. Lois was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Catherine’s Altar Society Circle, the VFW Auxiliary and the Eagles Auxiliary. She loved to bowl and was a member of several award winning bowling leagues. In the most recent years, she volunteered at the Devils Lake Senior Citizen Center. Lois had many dear friends that she enjoyed visiting and driving to appointments and activities. She had a kind and generous heart and her bright smile and the twinkle in her eyes will be missed but never forgotten. Lois is survived by nephews Jack Peterson, Shane Peterson and Lance Peterson and their families and several cousins. Lois was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Gordon and step-brothers Charles Chase and Fred Francis Chase and step-sister Helen Chase Peterson.
