Marylu Martin, 83 of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Thursday afternoon, July 28 at the Heartland Care Center in the prayers and presence of her family.
Mass of Christian Burial for Marylu will be on Monday, August 1 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Fr. Jason Asselin will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, July 31 at St. Joseph Catholic Church from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. followed by a Rosary and a Scripture Service. The Rosary will be led by the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Visitation on Monday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass.
Serving as Casket Bearers for Marylu will be her grandchildren Brett Johnston, Ian Martin, Casey Martin, Andrew Martin, Patrick Martin Jr., Landon Lang, Jacob Lang and Jayce Lizakowski.
Reading the Scriptures will be Jackie Jaeger and Julianne Breyer and Gift Bearers will be Marylu’s grandchildren. Music will be provided by Patty Cote.
Marylu was born on December 21, 1928 on the family farm in Wales, ND. She was the seventh of ten children born to Edward and Mary Agnes (Fetsch) Breyer. Marylu graduated from St. Alphonsus High School in Langdon North Dakota in 1946. At the time of her graduation from High School her mother had passed away, Marylu remained on the farm working with her father and providing care for her three younger brothers.
She met L.Patrick Martin of Munich, N.D. at a county dance. Upon his return from service in the Army during the Korean War they married. They were married January 5, 1952 at St. Mary's Church in Wales, N.D. They couple moved to Devils Lake in 1955.
The special loves of Marylu's life were God, her family, gardening and visiting with people.
Marylu was preceded in death by her husband Pat and son Patrick(Rick), her parents; brothers: Joseph Breyer, Louie Breyer, Richard Breyer, Louis Breyer, Edward Breyer, James Breyer and sister Cecilia Breyer.
Surviving children include: Mary Martin, Jackson, Wyoming; Nannette Martin, Devils Lake; Alan (Cindy) Martin, Devils Lake; Lisa (Jay) Lizakowski, Thief River Falls, MN; Mark (Darla) Martin, Goodyear, Arizona; Brian Martin, Williston, North Dakota; Barry (Garnet) Martin, Devils Lake and Geralyn (Troy) Lang, Fargo North Dakota. Marylu is survived by her brother Jerry (Judy) Breyer, Grand Forks and sister, Margaret Olson, San Jucinta, California. She is survived by 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
