ANNE LOUISE SPANGELO

Anne L. Spangelo, 87 of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Monday, August 1, 2011 at the Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 5, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Fr. Jason Asselin will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Thursday from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 6:00 p.m. Visitation on Friday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass. Serving as Casket Bearers for Anne will be Gordon Brandvold, Eric Brandvold, Jason Brandvold, Charles Soderstrom, Kevin Spangelo and Wallace Kraft. Reading the Scriptures will be Shera Brandvold and Gift Bearers will be Dawson Brandvold, Ethan Brandvold, Alana Brandvold and Elsa Brandvold. Music will be provided by Patty Cote. Anne Louise was born on October 9, 1923 at Devils Lake, ND the 6th of 10 children born to Jacob and Regina (Gange) Stappler. She was raised and educated in Devils Lake, attending Devils Lake Public Schools. After graduating, Anne worked for the Great Northern Railway for a time and then her adventurous spirit took her to Washington, DC where she worked for the Navy during World War II. Anne returned to Devils Lake and met Glenn H. Spangelo and they married on September 6, 1947 in Devils Lake. They established their home in Devils Lake and lived, worked and raised their family here, making Devils Lake their home their entire lives. Glenn passed away on November 10, 1972. When Anne moved back to Devils Lake from Washington, DC, she began working for the Farmers Home Administration and was a dedicated employee for many years until she retired. Anne loved to bowl, golf and enjoyed fishing in the summer months. She had many good times with her friends on the various bowling leagues and on the golf course. Anne loved her family with her whole heart and being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren always brought a smile to her face and joy to her heart. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Anne is survived by her loving family. Her daughter, Denise and her husband, Gordon Brandvold of Devils Lake; grandsons, Jason (Shera) Brandvold, Devils Lake, Eric (Jeanne) Brandvold, Perham, MN, Brian Spangelo, Grand Rapids, Michigan and Kevin Spangelo of Kalamazoo, Michigan; daughter-in-law, Gayle Spangelo-Klinkers also of Kalamazoo; great grandchildren, Dawson , Ethan and Noah Brandvold of Devils Lake and Alana, Elsa and Ewan Brandvold of Perham; sisters, Marion Buckley of Devils Lake and Marjorie Bye of Onalaska, Wisconsin; many nieces and nephews also survive. Anne was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glenn; son, Ronald Spangelo; brothers and sisters, Mary Eva Kraft, Regina Haberlack, Jacob Stappler, Lawrence Stappler, Kathryn Stappler, Tony Stappler and Caroline Hamby.
