Darlene R. Jacobson, 72 of Devils Lake, ND passed away at her home on Wednesday morning, August 24, 2011.
Funeral Services for Darlene will be held on Monday, August 29, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake. Rev. Rafe Allison will officiate and burial will be at a later date in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Maddock, ND beside her husband, Alvin.
Darlene Rose, daughter of Lyman and Alden (Cooper) Purvis was born on April 3, 1939 in Coleville, Saskatchewan, Canada where she was reared and educated. At the age of 16 she came to the United States and to North Dakota where she lived the rest of her life. She was at one time married to Vernon D. Beckedahl.
Darlene was united in marriage to Alvin Jacobson in 1975 and they established their home in the Maddock area, where they lived and worked with Darlene farming alongside her husband. They eventually moved to Devils Lake and Darlene and Alvin owned and operated D&A’s Café for many years. Darlene also worked in several of the area restaurants for many years and worked as a dietary aide at Mercy Hospital for several years. At the time of her death, Darlene was employed at Wally’s in the Deli Department.
Even though much of Darlene’s life was in the food industry, she still loved to cook and share her delicious creations with her family and friends. She loved gardening and was very proud of her yard and beautiful flowers she grew. Darlene especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Darlene was a priceless treasure to so many and will be greatly missed.
Darlene is survived by her children and their spouses, Charlene and Loren Melaas of Maddock, ND and Vernon Beckadahl Jr. and Kathy of Tulsa, Oklahoma; five grandchildren Lucas (Michelle) Melaas, Devils Lake, Brian (Tara) Melaas, Kenmare, ND, Lyman (Skyla) Melaas, Devils Lake, Leon Melaas, Fargo, ND and Ellie Melaas, Bismarck, ND; eight great grandchildren L.J., Erika, Jalen, Hunter, Elyse, Ian, Zander and Lyla; sister Margaret Hall of Brandon, Manitoba, Canada and very special friend, Jim Kuntz.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband Alvin; sister Edith Beitel and brother William Purvis.
