Daniel A. Nelson

Daniel A. “Dan” Nelson, 73 of St. Michael, ND passed away at his home on Thursday, August 25, 2011 surrounded by his family and friends. Funeral Services for Dan will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Military Honors will be accorded by the Neathery-Simensen Post #756, Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the services followed by a meal served in honor of Dan at the KC hall in Devils Lake. Serving as Casket Bearers for Dan will be Earl Reed, Blake Azure, Jennifer Driver, Chris Morin, Brandon Driver, Jeremy Nelson, Daniel Nelson Jr. and Trea Gustafson. Honorary Bearers will be grandsons, Skyler Nelson and Jerred Nelson Dan Alaric, son of William and Beth (Tracy) Nelson was born on July 13, 1938 in Yankton, SD. Dan was reared and educated in South Dakota before joining the Navy. Following the Navy Dan returned to South Dakota where he worked for the Pepsi Company and eventually met and married Violet Ann Morin. Dan and Violet then moved to Devils Lake were they raised their five children. Dan was recognized in his life work as one of the best glass glazier in North Dakota, Minnesota, South Dakota, Montana and Kansas. Dan always enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. As Dan traveled he accumulated a vast collection of coins that over his life he gave to members of his family. In his retirement he spent his time playing bar bingo and fishing. He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends. Dan is survived by his wife, Violet; daughters Rhonda (Fred) Gustafson of St. John; Teresa Nelson of Bismarck; Patricia (Darren) Kimmerly of St. Michael; sons Daniel Nelson of Grand Forks; Dean (Lori) Nelson of Devils Lake. Grandchildren Chris Morin, Devils Lake; Trea Gustafson, St. John; Nathan Gustafson, St. John; Jennifer Driver, Albuquerque; Brandon Driver, Phoenix; Kami Garver, Albuquerque; Jesse Nelson, Grand Forks; Daniel (Dano) Nelson, Grand Forks; Brandi Nelson, Grand Forks; Jeremy Nelson, Minot; Breanna Kimmerly, St. Michael; Makayla Nelson of Nevada; Skyler Nelson of Devils Lake; Jerred Nelson of Devils Lake. Great Grandchildren Nevaeh, Jamisen, Alaric, Kira. and Cade. Godchildren Blake Azure, Dawn Reed and Chad Rolland. Three brothers Bob Nelson, Skippy Nelson, Alan Nelson and two sisters Kathy Hoffman and Mary Harold. Dan was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter Kiley.
