Bernadine Amelia was born on August 18, 1941 at Selz, North Dakota the daughter of Pete and Amelia (Burckhard) Ganje. At a very young age she moved with the family to Devils Lake, ND where she was educated, graduating from Devils Lake Central High School with the class of 1959. She then attended Lake Region Junior College and received a Secretarial Degree. She worked in the billing department for the City of Devils Lake.
Bonnie was united in marriage to Carl Anton “Tony” Skurdall on May 20, 1965 at Devils Lake. They made Devils Lake their home their entire life, working and raising their children here. They owned and operated the Skurdall Answering Service from their home for many years. After more modern communication came into existence they closed their business and Bonnie worked as a teacher’s aide at Prairie View School and also worked at the Snack Shack in the Holiday Mall. She worked at Lake Region Lutheran Home and later at Lake Region Corporation. In 2008 she was diagnosed with cancer and had to retire.
Bonnie enjoyed working in her yard, taking care of her grandchildren, puzzles, mystery shows and trips to the Casino with family and friends. She loved to cook and in the words of children and grandchildren she made the “best gravy”. Bonnie was that special grandma who attended every activity and event her grandchildren were a part of. She made every accomplishment and holiday special for her grandchildren and she was never too old to play Lego with her grandchildren.
Bonnie will be greatly missed and was dearly loved by her children Paul Skurdall and his wife Rhonda of Devils Lake and Linda and her husband Randy Olson also of Devils Lake; grandchildren Zachary and Logan Skurdall and Tyler Skurdall and his son and Bonnie’s great grandson Ashton Armstrong, sister Tina Koski also of Devils Lake; several cousins, nieces and nephews also survive.
