Harold Robert was born on March 17, 1928 at Rolla, ND the youngest of ten children born to Clyde and Emma (Crist) Sager. He received his education in a country school near St. John ND. In 1942 he moved with his parents to a farm in Hammer Township, Ramsey County.
Bob was united in marriage to Carolyn Horner on July 25, 1959 in Devils Lake. They established their home on the Sager farm where they lived, farmed and ranched and raised their children through the years. In 1987, Bob and Carolyn moved to Devils Lake and their son Richard moved to the family farm. After leaving the farm, Bob especially missed the cattle ranching and was always concerned about the family dogs.
Bob would never know the meaning of retirement. He worked for 14 years at the Lake Region Lutheran Home as a CNA and later in maintenance, usually always the “night shift”. In the daylight hours, Bob was working at his brother-in-law, Brad Horne’s farm. And one and two jobs at a time wasn’t enough for Bob, he also cleaned at the Devils Lake Senior Citizen Center for 12 years. At the time of his death, Bob was in his 10th year at Lake Region State College in the custodial department.
Bob was a member of the United Methodist Church in Starkweather where he taught Sunday School and also held several positions on the church council. He also served on the Hammer Township Board for over 25 years. After moving to Devils Lake they were members of the First United Methodist Church.
If Bob did have any free time, it was spent attending any and every school or sporting activity and special event that his grandchildren participated in. He made every effort to be there, he was their greatest supporter.
