Obituary updated and corrected. Cecilia Hegge, 95 of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Tuesday evening, December 20, 2011 at Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake. Funeral Services for Cecilia will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake with Rev. Reuben Schnaidt officiating. Burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Monday from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Tuesday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Serving as Casket Bearers for Cecilia will be Richard Lindberg, Duane Volk, Michael Carlson, Chad Wilson, Scott Boe, Tom Rerick, Jacob Olson, Taylor Boe and Kris Brown. Music will be Congregational Hymns with Dan Nybo, accompanist. Cecilia, daughter of Albert and Elizabeth “Betsy” (Sjoberg) Bryn was born on the family farm, in Grand Harbor Township, rural Devils Lake on April 14, 1916. She attended and graduated from the 8th grade at Bay School, located ¾ miles from the family farm. She then attended Devils Lake Central High School and graduated with the class of 1933. After graduating, Cecilia lived on the family farm and helped her parents. On October 8, 1939 Cecilia was united in marriage to Joseph M. Hegge in Devils Lake. In the early forties they purchased their farm from Joe’s parents. Here Joe and Cecilia lived, worked and raised their children Joan, Ellen, Dorothy, Bobby and Betty, making the farm their home for 25 years. Joseph died on October 2, 1964. Cecilia continued to live on the farm for 41 years. Cecilia was a baptized and confirmed member of the Norway Lutheran Church, rural Devils Lake and later became a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and the church WELCA. Cecilia was a charter member of the Morris Cheerio Homemakers Club, former member of the Sons of Norway, Pioneer Daughters and was presently a member of the Odd Fellows. Cecilia was a good mechanic, carpenter, gardener and her greatest passion was fishing. Most of all, Cecilia loved the times she could be with her family and she will be lovingly missed by all. Cecilia is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Joan and Ronald Lindberg of Perth, ND and Dorothy and Melvin Bish of Sun City West, Arizona; nine grandchildren Sharon (Scott) Boe, Richard (Amy) Lindberg and Cindy (Tom) Rerick; Duane Volk and Christine Volk; Michael Carlson, Donna Peterman and Sandy Olson; Chad Wilson; twelve great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and their families also survive. Cecilia was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joe; daughters Christine Hegge, Betty White and Ellen Volk and son Robert “Bobby” Hegge; sisters Christine Bryn, Thea Lo and Beatrice Adahl; brother Adolf Bryn.
