VIOLET VIRGINIA DEPLAZES

Violet V. Deplazes, 89, a long time rural Devils Lake resident, passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at her home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 31, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake, ND. Fr. Dale Kinzler will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation for Violet will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Friday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. The Rosary will be led by the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Visitation on Saturday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass. Serving as Casket Bearers for Violet will be her grandsons Troy Deplazes, Todd Bergeth, Bradley Deplazes, Jason Deplazes, Darren Deplazes, Brandon Sundeen and Neil Deplazes. Honorary Bearers will be Violet’s granddaughters Stacey Nelson, Wendy Deplazes, Jackie Staloch, Janet Harrington, Keri Schmidt, Carla Spokely and Natalie Deplazes. Reading the Scriptures will be Keri Schmidt and Gift Bearers will be Devan Sundeen, Abby Deplazes, Samantha Staloch and Cody Deplazes. Altar Servers will be Heidi Deplazes, Greg Hammons and Nick Hammons. A Special Tribute will be given by Todd Bergeth. Music will be provided by Lynne Webster and JoDee Lagein. Violet Virginia Verke was born on September 13, 1922 to Carl and Caroline (Hanson) Verke at Nekoma, North Dakota. She was educated at Osnabrock Township Consolidated School. Violet was united in marriage to Bernard Deplazes Sr. on June 3, 1941 at St. Edwards Church at Nekoma. They lived on the farm, near York, ND for six years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Cando and also was a member of the Altar Society and Christian Mothers Society. In 1947, Bernard and Violet bought a farm near Devils Lake, where they lived, operated their dairy farm and raised their family through the years. They were active members of St. Benedict’s Church and Violet was also an active member of the Altar Society and Christian Mothers. Violet loved to entertain family, and friends were always welcome to stop in for dinners and lunches. Bernard passed away on September 14, 2000. Violet loved to sew and make crafts and entered several sewing contests. In recent years, many hours were spent making cards for family and friends. She also did some modeling for the Devils Lake stores. For many years Violet visited friends at the Devils Lake nursing homes weekly when weather and health permitted. In 1994, Bernard and Violet moved to Devils Lake and they attended St. Joseph Church. She belonged to the St. Rita Circle and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Violet was so very special to everyone who knew her and she will be deeply missed. Violet is survived by her loving family. Her children, Bernie Deplazes and his wife Carol of Devils Lake, Connie and her husband Jack Klecker of Menahga, Minnesota and Surprise, Arizona, Kenny Deplazes and his wife Jan also of Devils Lake, Richard Deplazes and his wife Jeanie of Webster, Minnesota and Kathy and her husband Kent Sundeen of Aurora, Colorado; seven grandsons, Troy (Stacey) Deplazes, Todd Bergeth (Tanya), Bradley (Melandie) Deplazes, Jason Deplazes, Darren (Jenni) Deplazes, Brandon Sundeen (Michelle Roerick) and Neil (Jessie) Deplazes; granddaughters, Stacey (Tim) Nelson, Wendy Deplazes, Jackie (Craig) Staloch, Janet (David) Harrington, Keri (Scott) Schmidt, Carla (Trevor) Spokely and Natalie Deplazes; twenty six great granddaughters and nineteen great grandsons; sisters Inga Hammer, Grafton, ND, Alida Roppel, Langdon, ND, Marion (Everett) Latullippe, Fairdale, ND and Selma Jenson also of Grafton; sisters-in-law, Margaret Ely, Greybull, Wyoming, Dorothy Deplazes, Cando, ND; Cleo Deplazes, Devils Lake, Shirley Verke and Ella Verke both of Fairdale; many nieces, nephews and their families also survive. Violet was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bernard; sister Ethel; brothers, Bryan, William, Lloyd, Hartley, Edwin, Clayton, Gilbert and Carl.
