Barbara was united in marriage to Benjamin Dodgson on October 12, 1935 at Lakota, ND. They established their home on the farm south of Doyon. Barbara was a devoted farm wife, helping with the farming and chores wherever and whenever she was needed. She was also a loving mother and her eight children were always her priority. In later years, when the demands of being a wife and mother were less, she enjoyed crocheting and other crafts.
In 1952, the family moved to Doyon and Barbara began cooking at the Doyon School. Later she was employed at the General Hospital in Devils Lake, first as a nurses’ aide for several years, then later as a cook in the Dietary Department and when she retired from the General Hospital, she was working in the Housekeeping Department.
As Ben’s health worsened, Barbara and Ben moved to Devils Lake and she continued to care for him until his death on February 6, 1971. After Ben’s death, Barbara continued to make Devils Lake her home and moved to the Heartland Care Center in February of 2006. Barbara’s heart was always that of caring for others and she volunteered many hours at Lake Region Lutheran Home (now Heartland Care Center), doing whatever she could to help the residents and the staff.
