Doris A. Aasmundstad, 86 of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Monday evening, February 20, 2012 at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake. Funeral Services for Doris will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake with Rev. Jeff Nicla officiating. Burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake on Thursday beginning at 11:00 a.m. until time of service. Music will be provided by Russell and Lynda Pearson. Doris Ardell was born on June 10, 1925 in Benson County, rural Tilden, ND the daughter of Blair and Doris (Hahn) Chapman. She grew up and was educated in the Tilden area, attending country schools and graduating from Minnewaukan High School. Doris was united in marriage to John E. Aasmundstad on December 11, 1945. They established their home on John’s farm and ranch in Grand Harbor and Pelican Townships. Doris was a devoted wife and mother. As parents to four boys, Doris and John were involved in many activities, such as FFA and serving as 4-Leaders for many years and were supporters of Farm Bureau and the Stockmen’s Association. Doris was also very active in the church, teaching Sunday School and Bible School and very involved in WELCA. She especially enjoyed participating in the Circle meetings. This was always a special time to get together with the ladies of the community and church. Doris was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge and served as the Noble Grand in 1982. Doris worked in the Register of Deeds office for six years and served as the Deputy of that office for several years. Doris loved life and being involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren. As her health declined she was unable to participate in the activities of the community, but she treasured visits from family and friends and listening to their stories. Doris is survived by her sons John and his wife Joyce of Beulah, ND, Grant and his wife Kathy of Olathe, Kansas, Eric and his wife Corrine of rural Devils Lake and Blake also of rural Devils Lake; grandchildren Kristian, Andrea, Britt, Taylor and Jenna; great grandchildren Ryan and Lauren; brother Blair Chapman and his wife Marlene of Devils Lake and several nieces, nephews and their families. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband John; brothers Thomas, Carroll and Larry Chapman and sister Jean Krowel.
