Robert Lee, son of Leon and Mary Ann (Schwehr) Anderson was born on December 29, 1942 at Valley City, ND. Bob was raised on the family farm and attended school in Dazey and graduated from North Central Barnes School, Rogers, ND. After graduating he continued to farm with his parents. He joined the National Guard and served with them until he was honorably discharged.
Bob married Ruth Petterson in 1964. They established their home on the farm in Dazey where they lived and worked and raised their daughters Renee and Becki. In 1980 Bob was united in marriage to Anita Wetzel in Grand Forks. They lived and farmed in Dazey until 1984 when they moved to Devils Lake to work and raise their children Michael, Sarah and Brian. Bob graduated with his CDL from Northwest Technical College in East Grand Forks and worked for a trucking company out of Jamestown for several years. Bob then decided on a new career, attended the Moler Barber College in Fargo and graduated in 1992. He worked for and eventually became the owner of Carol’s Barber Shop. Even after Carol retired he continued with the name out of respect and the dear friendship they had. Bob was still working full-time at the shop at the time of his death.
Bob was a member of Seven Dolors and St. Jerome’s Catholic Church, Fort Totten.
Bob would never admit it, but he loved people and being around people. He had an opinion about many things, but being the good barber he was, he could also listen and agree to disagree. When the shop was closed and he didn’t have anyone to visit with, he would head to the Casino to find friends and strangers to talk too. He also enjoyed every family get together or just a hello whenever family was in town. However, Sundays were always reserved as a day to sleep in, watch movies, cheer for the Detroit Lions during football season and the New York Yankees in baseball season. Bob was the type of guy you knew really liked you if he took the time to give you a bad time, tease you or leave you with his words of wisdom.
Bob is survived by his children Renee (Royce) Nelson of Bismarck, ND, Becki Lawler of Fargo, ND, Sarah Anderson (Courtney Gratton) of Wilton, ND and Brian Anderson of Devils Lake; step children Todd (Lisa) Thompson of Grand Forks, ND, Troy (Kathy) Thompson of Fessenden, ND, Keely (Mark) Sabinash of Jamestown, ND and Dawn (Ben) Schoeberl of Las Vegas, NV; twenty-one grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael Anderson; granddaughter, Jennifer Hildebrant and sister, Rita Wegner.
