Patti fought a courageous battle with cancer for the past 11 months, with her sister Monica by her side every step of the way. Patti was born on April 9, 1966 at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake to Henry and Rose (Littleghost) DuBois. She grew up in the Woodlake District and attended school at the St. Michael Tribal School and Warwick Public School. She moved to Mille Lacs, Minnesota in the late 1990’s and resided there until 2010 when she moved to Mandaree for a brief time before returning home. She worked at the Dakota Bingo Palace in various positions, as a driver and data input for the Spirit Lake Youth Drug and Alcohol Program, as a cultural teacher for the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwa teaching the youth to make dance regalia and beadwork. She was currently employed at the Spirit Lake Casino and Resort as the assistant Bingo Manager. Patti was an avid reader but her passion was in beading. She made many intricate pieces of beadwork. One of the last items she made was a beaded tie tack with matching button covers for Senator Dorgan. Patti was at one time married to Ernie Sam and was later divorced. Our mother was a very kind, caring and generous lady. She was a champion fancy shawl dancer in her younger years and later danced jingle and the last time she danced was in 2010 as a traditional dancer in Poplar, Montana. The family would like to express their gratitude to all the people who came to visit and pray for Patti while she was in the hospital and at home. We will always love and miss her.
