Leonard A. “Bud” Schlieve, 85 of Devils Lake formerly of Warwick and Webster, ND passed away early Tuesday morning, April 3, 2012 at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake. Funeral Services for Bud will be held on Monday, April 9th, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake with Rev. Reuben Schnaidt officiating. Burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery. Serving as Honorary Bearers will be all of Leonard’s Nieces and Nephews. Music will be provided by Russell and Lynda Pearson. Leonard was born on September 26, 1926 at Knox, ND the son of Robert Lee and Mary Elizabeth (Jones) Schlieve. He grew up in the York, ND area, attending school and helping on the family farm. The family soon moved to the Warwick area and lived there until 1955 when they moved to Webster. As a young man, Leonard worked for the Anaconda Mining Company in Great Falls, Montana. He later worked construction around the country for various employers including John Swenson. He was on the construction crew that built the Sheyenne Elevator. From 1962 to 1993, Leonard farmed with his brother, Lyle in the Webster area until retiring and selling the farm. After retiring he worked for Bryl Custom Combining and also helped the neighbors with their farming. For several years, Bud and Lyle would spend the winter months in Texas. After Lyle passed away, Leonard moved from the farm at Webster into Devils Lake where he made his home at the time of his death. When Bud wasn’t farming or helping the neighbors he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Leonard is survived by his brothers and sisters, Tilford (Beverly) Schlieve, Donald (Lola) Schlieve, Arthur Schlieve, Mildred Johnson and Hazel Ralston all of Devils Lake and many nieces, nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Lyle Schlieve, sister Mabel Brown and nephew Scott Schlieve.
