Anthony J. Schneider, 88, of Devils Lake, ND passed away at Aneta Parkview Health Center, Aneta, ND in the loving care of his family on Tuesday, April 10, 2012. Mass of Christian Burial for Anthony will be held on Friday, April 13, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake with burial in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Fr. Dale Kinzler celebrate the Mass. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Thursday, April 12, 2012 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. The Rosary and Scripture Service will be at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Visitation on Friday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass. Serving as Casket Bearers for Anthony will be his grandsons Steve Schneider, Brad Schneider, Neil LaBarre, Justin Schneider, Jake Burdick and Eric Schneider. Honorary Bearers will be all of Anthony’s Grandchildren. Reading the Scriptures will be granddaughters Shera Brandvold and Audrey Hinds and Gift Bearers will be granddaughters Shellie Lindler, Shauna Castillo, Stephanie Thielges, Tanya Schneider and Bethany Elshaug. Altar Servers will be great granddaughters Macy and Karli Schneider. Anthony Joseph, son of Jacob E. and Margaret (Gerein) Schneider was born on October 15, 1923 at Orrin, ND where he grew up and was educated. Anthony was united in marriage to Irene Schaan on November 17, 1947 at Rugby, ND. They farmed near Baker, ND for two years, then near Rugby until 1955. The winter of 1949, one hundred inches of snow fell to the ground. Every aspect of farming, ranching, heating and transportation to anywhere were a challenge but through faith and innovation, they survived. In 1955 they purchased a farm in Ramsey County, on the same day their son Robert was born, and this farm is now where Robert and his family are honored to make their home. Anthony and Irene built a home in Devils Lake in 1975 and made this their home through the years. Anthony was an active member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, rural Crary and after moving to Devils Lake became a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Anthony was a former member of the Devils Lake Elks Lodge. Anthony loved farming, gardening and woodworking. He enjoyed visiting Clem and Cathy in North Carolina and Georgia in the winter months. Fishing in Georgia was the greatest pleasure. He loved family gatherings and especially loved the grandchildren and great grandchildren. Anthony was a devoted husband for over 64 years and proud of all of his 10 children, 23 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. His faith, his family and farming were the factors that sustained him through the years and were most precious to him. Anthony is survived by his wife Irene Schneider of Devils Lake; sons Clemens (Linda) Schneider of Hickory, North Carolina, Robert (Vicki) Schneider of Crary, ND, Richard (Pamela) Schneider of Harwood, ND and Ronald (Shelley) Schneider also of Devils Lake; daughters Catherine (William) Cox of Bainbridge, Georgia, Bonita (William) Burdick of Devils Lake and Shirley (Joe) Tavis of Hazen, ND; brother Francis (Gloria) Schneider of Minnewaukan, ND and sister Agnes (Mike) Haman of Devils Lake; daughter-in-law Cindy Schneider, Devils Lake and son-in-law Donald LaBarre also Devils Lake. Anthony was preceded in death by his daughter Barbara LaBarre; sons Patrick and Gerald Schneider; granddaughter Alicia Burdick Uriell; brothers Joseph, Jacob, Rudolph, Raphael Schneider and John in infancy and sisters Sr. Margaret Mary, Sr. Mary Margaret, Catherine Krenzel, Magadelena Schneider and Martha in infancy.
