Elizabeth (Liz) J. Matthews, 75 of Devils Lake formerly of Minnewaukan, ND passed away on Sunday, May 13, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake in the care of her family and Mercy Hospice. Mass of Christian Burial for Liz will be on Friday, May 18, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake with Fr. C.F. Wilhelm celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Thursday, May 17, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Friday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass. Serving as Casket Bearers will be Elizabeth’s grandsons Matthew Wallace, Mark Wallace, John Wallace, Peter Wallace and Jonathan Wallace. Reading the Scriptures will be Sharon Eversvik and the Gift Bearers will be the Dustin and Sara Reese family. Eucharistic Minister will be Fred Bingham. Elizabeth J Kraft was born March 9, 1937 to John and Alysia (Sander) Kraft at St. Michaels, North Dakota. She was raised on the family farm in Mission Twp, Benson County, ND. May, 1957, she married Lloyd Wallace. Elizabeth raised her 3 children, Robert, Mark and Jeffrey Wallace in the Minnewaukan and Devils Lake area. Elizabeth entered into marriage with Virgil Matthews on May 21, 1971. She began employment with Sioux Mfg in Fort Totten in fall of 1979 and remained employed there for 25 years. She retired in 2004. Elizabeth adored her children and grandchildren and enjoyed living close to her brothers and sisters in the Devils Lake area. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church (Minnewaukan) for several years, St. Joseph Catholic Church in Devils Lake, and the Minnewaukan 55 Club. Surviving are her children: Robert (Carrie) Wallace of Northwood, ND, Mark (Cheryl) Wallace of Big Lake, MN and Jeffrey Wallace of Devils Lake, ND. 6 grandchildren: Matthew (Vanessa) Wallace of Northwood, Mark Wallace of Fargo, John & Peter Wallace of Big Lake, Minnesota, Jonathan Wallace of Devils Lake, and Sarah (Josh) Acevedo of Fort Meyers, Florida and great grandson, Jerimiah Acevedo. 6 brothers, John, Peter, Emil, Michael (Kathy), Joseph (Cece), Louie (Phyliss) Kraft; 2 sisters, Ann (Fred) Bingham and Mary Kuntz, several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, her husband Virgil Matthews, brothers Frank, Sebastian & Anton
