Ricky G. Nelson, 51 of rural Devils Lake, ND passed away early Tuesday morning, June 5, 2012 at Heartland Care Center in the loving care of his family and Hospice with special thanks to Melissa.
Mass of Christian Burial for Ricky will be held on Friday, June 8, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Fr. Dale Kinzler will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Friday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass.
Serving as Casket Bearers for Ricky will be Steve Crist, Jimmy Romdalvik, Shane Parrish, Tim Boline, Tim Gee and Chad Ehnert. Reading the Scriptures will be Aaron Longie and Gift Bearers will be Tony, Shannon, Hunter and Zachary Drury. Music will be provided by Alicia Parrish, Tessa Parrish and JoDee Lagein.
Ricky Gene, son of Raymond and Kathryn (Hager) Nelson was born on October 2, 1960 in Devils Lake. He attended Devils Lake Public School and was active in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and the ROTC Program. He was a member of the class of 1979.
Ricky’s special talent was in the field of mechanics and he was at one time employed with Langton Enterprises, Lake Supply, Service Garage, Prairie Truck and Tractor, Good Year and Twete, Inc. He loved training new people in the mechanic field whenever he got the chance.
Rick enjoyed fishing, grilling for family and friends, playing pinochle, watching old movies, listening to music and raising ducks and chickens. Rick especially loved eating “Scooby Snacks” with his great nephews and spending time with all of his family.
Rick took pride in his Jeep and boat, “Extreme Patience” and shared it with all of his friends.
Those who loved Rick are many and include his parents Raymond and Kathryn Nelson of rural Devils Lake; brother and sister-in-law Randy and Brenda Nelson; niece and nephew Shannon and Tony Drury and great nephews Hunter and Zachary Drury all of rural Devils Lake; godmother Carol McGuire; friend Steve; many aunts, uncles and cousins and many other family and friends.
Rick was preceded in death by his grandparents John and Emma Hager and William and Clarice Nelson; niece Bobbie Jo Nelson and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
