Mardell Ann LaMotte, of Devils Lake formerly of Grand Forks, ND passed away, Saturday, June 9, 2012 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks of lung cancer after a long courageous battle. Mardell was 71 years old. Mass of Christian Burial for Mardell will be held on Thursday, June 14, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake, ND with Fr. Dale Kinzler celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. Serving as Urn Bearers for Mardell will be her grandsons Jeremy and Jordan Becker. Reading the Scriptures will be Paul Becker and Jordan Becker with Gift Bearers as Mardell’s grandchildren Brady and Mariah LaMotte and Lindsey Becker. Music will be provided by Peter A. Hager and JoDee Lagein. Mardell Lambert LaMotte was born on June 23, 1940 to John and Anna (Hart) Lambert in Warwick, ND. At the age of 1 the family moved to Devils Lake and a year later to Velva, ND, living there until 1955 when they moved back to Devils Lake. On September 11, 1958 Mardell was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” LaMotte at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake. They established their home in Devils Lake and in 1962 Mardell graduated top of her class from one of the first Licensed Practical Nurse Programs at Lake Region Junior College. She worked in Devils Lake at Mercy Hospital in Obstetrics from 1962 to 1974 and the Good Samaritan Nursing Home from 1974 to 1976. Following that, Mardell became the Ramsey County Clerk of District Court from 1976 to 1982. In 1983, Mardell and the family moved to Grand Forks, ND. While living in Grand Forks, Mardell worked as a bookkeeper at Atlantis Aquatics from 1987 to 1992. From 1992 until she retired in 2005, Mardell was the manager of Columbia Park Towers also in Grand Forks. After retiring, Mardell and Bob spent a couple of winters in Fairfield Bay, Arkansas and five winters in Bullhead City, Arizona, living in Devils Lake during the summers. Mardell enjoyed many hobbies; quilting, scrapbooking, bowling, oil painting including many other arts and crafts. She was an avid bridge player and especially enjoyed playing the game with her many firends at the Columbia Park Towers. she also greatly enjoyed going to Casinos. She was active in the Jaycees, belonged to the VFW Auxiliary and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Mardell is survived by her husband of 54 years, Bob LaMotte and her children, Kimberly Marie and her husband Paul Becker of Crary, ND, Jim Lee LaMotte and his wife Marilyn of Devils Lake and Michelle Ann LaMotte Bry and her husband Doug Bry of Fairfield, Arkansas; six grandchildren, Jeremy (Samantha) Becker, Jordan Becker and Lindsey Becker, Brady LaMotte and Mariah LaMotte and Miranda Bry; sisters, Kay Swenson of East Grand Forks, MN, Janice (Gene) Watne of Velva, ND and Sharon (Jerry) Lutton of Fort Mohave, AZ and several nieces and nephews. Mardell was preceded in death by her parents, John and Anna; brother, Lee Lambert of Kingman, AZ and sisters, Marge Sallila of Spokane, WA and Maxine Russell of Clovis, NM.
