Marie E. (Baker) Peltier, 81, of Belcourt, ND formally of St. Michaels, ND departed this world on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake, ND after a short battle with lung cancer.
Mass of the Christian burial will be held Wednesday June 20, 2012 at 10:00 am at St. Michaels Catholic Church at St. Michael, ND with Fr. Brian Moen celebrating the Mass. Interment will be in the St. Michael cemetery near her beloved children.
An all night wake service will be held at the St. Michael Tekakwitha Center, St. Michael on Tuesday beginning at 7 pm. The procession will leave Wal-Mart parking lot at 6:00 pm, Tuesday June 19th, 2012, with Rosary & Scripture services at 8:00 pm.
Serving as Pallbearers will be the grandchildren & great grandchildren of Marie E. Peltier; Dancia Jackson, Cyphrine Silva, Lonna (Jackson) Street, Darcie (Jackson) Delorme, Karen (Jackson) Yankton and Jolene Murphy.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Marie Baker, Violet (Fee) Nelson, Sylvia Brownshield, Pauline Greywater, Helena Littleghost, Darlene Wadsworth, Lea Black, Gilbert Morin, Rita & Richard Langer, Joe & Delemma Baker, Ruthann Baker, Alma Charette, Sally Henry, Russell Swain, Velma & Vern Lambert, Dorthea Olson, Ephriam Hill Family, Linda Herman, Joe Herman, Patty Shaw, Elaine Blue, Curtis Black and Paul Poitra. Marie Elizabeth Baker began her earthly journey June 25, 1930, at Grahams Island, ND to Paul and Cyphrine (DuBois) Baker. Marie was raised and educated in North Dakota. Marie made her home in various places throughout her lifetime, ultimately coming home to North Dakota for the remainder of her life.
Marie E. Baker met and married Lawrence M. Murphy, November 22, 1949. Together they raised their nine children and established their home in St. Michael, ND and Longview Washington. Marie later met and married Gilbert Peltier in Dillon, MT in 1980. Marie was employed at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake, ND as a CNA for many years where she cared for many, many patients. During her lifetime Marie held various jobs but enjoyed being a homemaker. Her hobbies were canning various foods for her family, ceramics, knitting and sewing. She also loved being surrounded by her family and friends, playing cards, going to bingo or casino and spending time with her loving puppy Roxy.
Marie was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Church and freely worshiped the Lord daily.
Our Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, relative and friend touched the lives of so many people who will always remember her kind-heartedness, friendship, love and laughter. Marie loved all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren dearly. Mom, Grandma, Auntie, we love you so much, you will be dearly missed.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt and blessed thank you to the Hawk & Charboneau families , Rolla Home Health Care Nursing Staff and Mercy Hospital Staff for your compassion towards our mother, grandmother and aunt in her time of need.
Marie is survived by her son: Patrick (Anita) Murphy, Longview, WA and adopted son Dean Nelson. Daughters: Agnes (Juan) Avila, Cashmere, WA, Debbie (Dave) Cavanaugh, St. Michael, ND, Blanche Dogskin, Nespelem, WA, Linda (Brad) Murphy, Casper, WY, Belinda Murphy, St. Michael, ND and adopted sister Violet (Fee) Nelson. Special nephew: Jim Baker. Special niece: Jeannie Lang; special great grandson: Greyson Delorme. Marie is also survived by 27 grand-children, 69 grand-children and 2 great-great grand-children.
Preceeded in death by her children: Larry Murphy, Michael Murphy, Ronnie Sutter, special grandson, Jamie Patterson. Parents, Paul & Cyphrine Baker, husbands, Gilbert Peltier and Lawrence Murphy Sr. Brothers: Paul Baker, Joe Baker, Frances Baker and adopted brother Ephriam Hill. Sisters: Alvina Cranmore, Josephine Black, Dorothy Azure, Veronica Erickson, Rose Snodgrass and Peggy Baker. Special Nephews: Donald and Peter Black.
