Frances M. Keller, of Devils Lake formerly of Oberon, ND died peacefully at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, Thursday, September 13, 2012. She was 95 years old.
Mass of Christian Burial for Frances will be held on Monday, September 17, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Fr. C.F. Wilhelm will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery beside her husband.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Sunday from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 5:00 p.m. Visitation on Monday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass.
Frances Keller was born on February 22, 1917 at her parent’s home in rural Drake, ND, the daughter of Henry and Josephine (Ziegler) LeMar. She attended elementary school at McHenry School, north of Drake, in McHenry County.
Frances worked for the School for the Deaf in Devils Lake before her marriage to Lawrence Keller in the fall of 1940 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Devils Lake.
Along with being a homemaker and raising her young family, Frances worked in Keller’s Bar, in Oberon for several years. Frances had many hobbies. She enjoyed making sauerkraut and pickles from their garden for family and friends. She made chokecherry wine and jelly from the area trees. She was an excellent cook and was famous for her homemade caramel rolls, buns, bread, “Kuga” and her German potato salad.
Frances enjoyed playing all types of card games, trips to the Spirit Lake Casino and fishing on Devils Lake in the summer and winter months. She taught her grandchildren the sport of fishing. She had a deep faith and was active in St. James Catholic Church, Minnewaukan, ND. However, her number one pastime was her love of reading.
Frances is survived by her children and their spouses: Sharon and Charles Johnson, Nevis, MN and Rose and Kenneth Amann, Wheaton, MN; ten grandchildren, John (Candace Kasprowicz) Keller, Fosston, MN, Michelle (Brad) Nash, Warroad, MN, Amy Keller, Detroit Lakes, MN, Mike (Anne Brown) Keller, West Fargo, ND and Kari (Ryan) Rivard, Argyle, MN; Daniel (Sarah Loetscher) Johnson, Duluth, MN, David Johnson, Plymouth, MN and Brian Johnson, Cedar Rapids; Jeff (Shawna) Amann, Spearfish, SD and Julie (Dave) Schulte, St. Joseph, MN; fifteen great grandchildren, Claudia, Hannah and Ben Keller; Jackson, Georgia and Lincoln Nash; Josie, Ellie and Aubrey Rivard; Maryn and Mallory Keller; Margaret and Anne Johnson; Ian and Savanah Amann; sister, Tillie (Pius) Wentz, Minot, ND and daughter-in-law, Sharon Keller, Warroad, MN.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence on September 18, 2003; her son, Warren; sister, Anne (Frank) Bossert and brothers, John (Mary) LeMar, Henry (Florence) LeMar, Matthew (Josephine) LeMar and Sebastian LeMar.
Serving as Casket Bearers for Frances will be her grandsons John Keller, Michael Keller, Daniel Johnson, David Johnson, Brian Johnson and Jeff Amann.
