Ruby I. Miller of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Saturday afternoon, October 6, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake. She was 99 y ears old. Mass of Christian Burial for Ruby will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake on Thursday, October 11, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. C.F. Wilhelm celebrating the Mass. Burial will be beside her husband in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Devils Lake. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 5:00 p.m. The Rosary will be led by the Catholic Daughters. Visitation on Thursday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass. Serving as Casket Bearers will be Ruby’s grandchildren, Carl Knarreborg, Steven Sletteland, Kristen Mertens, Nicole Olson, Gayle Guggisberg, Tamara Fisher, Branden Sletteland, Miranda Mathison and Scott Miller. Reading the Scriptures will be Bruce Fisher and Gayle Guggisberg. Gift Bearers will be Jill and Norman Hanson and Kyle Sletteland. Music will be provided by Lynne Webster and Audrey Myklebust. Ruby Isabell Ferry was born on a farm at Ashkum, Illinois on May 11, 1913, the daughter of John and Alice (Goyette) Ferry. She attended a one room school house through the eighth grade. After graduating from the eighth grade, her parents, brothers and sisters moved to Chicago, Illinois where she graduated from high school. While living in Chicago, Ruby worked for Sears Roebuck for thirteen years. On Christmas Day, December 25, 1939 Ruby was united in marriage to Howard F. Miller in Chicago, Illinois. After Howard spent 3 ½ years in the Army they came to Devils Lake and bought land and farmed four miles east of Webster. On October 21, 1974, Howard got hurt due to a farm accident and died on November 8, 1974. Ruby worked at Manns Department Store, Penney’s, Tom Nistler’s Hardware Store and for the priests of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church for 8 ½ years as the housekeeper. Ruby was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the Altar Society, St. Jude’s Circle, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Eagle’s Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary and Prairie View Homemakers. Ruby was a volunteer at Sweetwater School for 1st and 2nd graders reading program and was a “care grandmother” at the Heartland Care Day Care Center for many years. She enjoyed these activities very much. She also volunteered at St. Joseph’s Seconds Count Store for several years. Ruby was an inspiration to her family and friends as she kept as active as possible through the years. She treasured time spent with her beloved family and friends and if there was time for a game of cards, all the better. Ruby’s parents preceded her in death as did her husband Howard; sisters Marie Jackson, Agnes Dillon and Mable Bold; brothers Bill Ferry, John Ferry and Joe Ferry and half brothers Elmer White and Henry White. Ruby is survived by her daughter Sharon and her husband Milton Knarreborg of Balfour, ND, son Howard Miller of Webster, ND and daughter Kathleen Miller of Devils Lake; nine grandchildren Carl Knarreborg, Gayle (Ron) Guggisberg, Steven (Jennifer) Sletteland, Kristen (Craig) Mertens, Tamara (Bruce) Fisher, Branden (Heide) Sletteland, Nicole (Bill) Olson, Miranda (David) Mathison and Scott (Andrea) Miller; seventeen great grandchildren Sela, Easton, Brianna; Isabella, Brooks, Karli, Jace, Tori, Jake, Sydney, Laci; Averi, Logan, Rebecca, Emily, Addison and Parker and many nieces and nephews.
