Marion A. Sheppard Overbo, 81 of Devils Lake, ND passed away Tuesday morning, October 9, 2012 at the Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake. Funeral Services for Marion will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake with Rev. Jeff Nicla officiating, Pastor of St. Olaf Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery immediately following funeral services. Everyone is invited to a time of fellowship which will be held at St. Olaf Lutheran Church following the graveside service. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 12:00 noon until time of service. Special music will be provided by Richard Neukom. Marion Sheppard Overbo was born Marion Alice Poissant on August 29, 1931. She was the daughter of Esther and Ted Poissant of Southam, ND, and spent her childhood years in Lakota and Devils Lake. Marion graduated from high school in Cando, ND in 1949. It was there that she met Lawrence E. Sheppard and they were united in marriage on June 12, 1949 at Cando. They had four children, and moved to Devils Lake in 1966. Marion served as the deputy clerk of court from 1969 to 1976 and held a variety of jobs from 1987 to 1991. She and Larry were married 36 years. Marion married Selmer P. Overbo on October 25, 1991 in Devils Lake. They established their home in Devils Lake and Marion made Devils Lake her home until her death. Marion was preceded in death by her husbands, Larry Sheppard on July 29, 1986 and Selmer Overbo on March 3, 1993; her parents; her sisters Rosella Miller and Dorothy Eaton and her brother Wauburn Poissant. Marion is survived by her children: sons, David and Susan Sheppard of Fargo, ND; Ted and Dianne Sheppard of Grand Forks, ND and Jim Sheppard of Crestone, Colorado; daughter, Janice and Dave Rice of Riverside, California; Marion is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren and her brother Bob and Bonnie Poissant of Manning, South Carolina.
