Philmena Hawn was born on October 11, 1933 to Joseph and Johanna (Keller) Beck at Devils Lake, ND. She attended Lincoln Elementary School and St. Mary’s Academy. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Phyllis lived in Devils Lake all of her life.
Phyllis was united in marriage to Theodore Hawn on August 24, 1968 at Cando, ND. They made their home in Devils Lake through the years. She worked at Majestic Cleaners for several years prior to her marriage and after marriage worked at the Two Spot Café for many years and several other cafes in Devils Lake. Phyllis retired in 1989 due to health problems. When Phyllis was able to find the time, she was an avid reader and enjoyed doing Word Search Puzzles.
Phyllis spent her life as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister. After her Dad died at a very young age, as the oldest child in the family, she felt a great responsibility and a desire to help her mother in raising her younger siblings and also assisting in providing financial help whenever she could. Even though Phyllis spent her life cooking for and serving others in the various cafes, on her days off she would make a point of preparing for her family and siblings whatever breakfast they asked for. That was Phyllis-loving, caring and serving others.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Ted; daughters Debbie (Rick) Anderson of Fargo, ND and Jean (Dan) Hettwer of Devils Lake; sons Joey (Danielle) Hawn of Devils Lake and Jeff (Susan) Hawn of Leeds, ND; three granddaughters Christie Senger, Bailey Hawn and Megan Hawn; three grandsons Scott (Dawnyll) Senger, Troy Hettwer and Dustin Hettwer and three great grandchildren Zachery, Kierstyn and Sierra; sisters Katherine Eback, Doris Rardon and JoAnn (Duane) Hahn all of Devils Lake; brother Casper (Linda) Beck also of Devils Lake; sisters-in-law Helen Beck of St. Michael, ND and Joyce Carlson of Hibbing, MN; brother-in-law Rudy Severinson also Devils Lake and many nieces and nephews.
