Doris Mae, a twin daughter of Asmund and Johanna (Dahl) Anderson was born on March 25, 1925 at Crary, North Dakota. She was reared and educated at Southam, attending Southam Public School.
Doris was united in marriage to Albert Peterson in Devils Lake in 1945. They moved to San Francisco, California for a time then returned to Devils Lake where they would live, work and raise their family through the years. Besides being a devoted wife and mother, Doris worked as a waitress at The Ranch for over 18 years, from 1952 to 1970. Albert passed away on May 21, 1969.
Doris married Arthur Burt on February 23, 1971 at Watertown, South Dakota. Again, they would make Devils Lake their home. Arthur passed away on January 1, 1999.
Doris was always an active member of the community and was a life member of the Elks Lodge and Elks Ladies Auxiliary and also a member of the VFW Auxiliary. Doris loved to travel and was so thrilled to have even traveled to Alaska and taken a Caribbean Cruise. She loved antique auctions and refinishing the furniture she acquired at the auctions. Doris was truly one of a kind. She loved sparkle and glitz and "big hair" and her most important task to her children and grandchildren was to “keep us in line”.
She loved her children and grandchildren and was so very proud of each and every one of them. They were the “sparkle” in her eyes. We have lost someone so very special to us and to all who knew her.
Doris is survived by her loving family. Her daughter, Judy Ryan of Devils Lake; sons David Peterson and his wife Cheryl of Brighton, CO and Brent Peterson of Devils Lake; daughters-in-law Sharon Peterson also of Devils Lake and Diane Peterson of Fort Collins, CO; grandchildren Darrick Peterson of Fargo, Dane Peterson also of Fargo, Demeryce (Darren) Tanaka of Oahu, HI, Shelly Ryan of Devils Lake, Steve (Susie) Peterson, Devils Lake, Christopher Bakken of San Diego, CA, Dustin Peterson, Mesa, AZ and Brent David Peterson of Haverhill, Massachusetts; great grandchildren Jayden, Fargo, Presley, Williston, Addison, Fargo, Jillian and Bree, Devils Lake and Kadin, Mesa; sisters Margaret Quam, Devils Lake and Alyce Grishkowsky, Beulah, ND; brothers Harold (Doris) Anderson, Bagley, MN and Howard Anderson of Oregon; many nieces, nephews and their families also survive.
