LYLE D. WALTER

Lyle D. Walter, 85 of Warwick, ND passed away at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake on Wednesday, December 12, 2012. Funeral Services for Lyle will be held on Monday, December 17, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the Warwick Lutheran Church, Warwick, ND with Rev. John Monson officiating. Burial will be in the Warwick Cemetery. Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Honorary Bearers will be Lyle’s special friends, Jack Coenen, Jeremy Fazekas, Jimmy Cudworth, Ervin Hultgren, Gary Elfman and Bob Jacobson. Special Music will be provided by Jeff and Karol Kapelle. Lyle Dean, son of Cleo and Florence (Rask) Walter was born in Chaseley, North Dakota on April 13, 1927. He was reared and educated at Chaseley and Emerick before moving with the family in the 1940’s to a farm northwest of Warwick. He was at one time married to Edith Anderson and they were the proud parents of four children. In 1949, Lyle began working for the John Deere Dealership in Devils Lake and eventually held the foreman position there. In the late 1950’s, Lyle began working at an implement dealership in Casselton, ND. Lyle opened “Walter Repair Shop” in 1983 in Warwick which he owned and operated until the spring of 2009 when he retired due to health problems. He worked mostly on diesel tractors and also took great pride in restoring vintage tractors. He also had a talent for making special tools and parts needed at the shop and other inventions. He won the “Inventor’s Congress” for North Dakota in 1961. Lyle’s first love was the steel guitar. He played steel guitar in a local band for several years. He loved his music and any song that featured a steel guitar. He enjoyed going to any Country Western Concerts. Lyle was united in marriage to Sharon Eidsvoog on June 12, 1987 and they made their home in Warwick through the years. Lyle is survived by his wife, Sharon; children, Wayne (Kathy) Walter of Draper, Utah, Verle (Ginny) Walter of West Fargo, ND, Les (Yelena Tropsha) of Plymouth, MN and Loretta “Rett” (Ray) Hoffmeister of Sioux Falls, SD; seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren; several very special nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Cecelia Park of Hillsboro, ND and Jennie Kautzman of Carrington, ND He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, Raymond and brother, Marvin Walter.
