LOWELL P. "PINKY" HUNT

Graveside services for Lowell “Pinky” Hunt will be held on Friday, June 14, 2013 at 3:30 p.m. at the Assumption of Mary Catholic Cemetery, rural Starkweather. Pinky passed away on January 6, 2013 in Grand Forks, ND at the age of 77 years. Lowell J. "Pinky" Hunt, 76 of Devils Lake formerly of Starkweather, ND passed away on Sunday afternoon, January 6, 2013 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND surrounded by his beloved family. Mass of the Resurrection for Lowell will be held on Friday, January 11, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Fr. C.F. Wilhelm will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in the Assumption of Mary Catholic Cemetery, rural Starkweather in the spring. Military Honors will be accorded by the Neathery-Simensen Post #756, Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors Team. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 5:00 p.m. The Rosary will be led by the Knights of Columbus. Lowell's grandchildren, Nathan, Danielle, Benjamin, Christina, Steven, Mathew, Brianne and Jordan will serve as Casket Bearers and Gift Bearers. Special Music will be provided by Candy Haus, Lynne Webster and Audrey Myklebust. Kari Hunt will read the Scriptures and Duane and Linda Schwab and Steve Swiontek will be Extraordinary Ministers. Lowell Jerome, son of Neil and Christina (Boehmer) Hunt was born on October 16, 1936 at Starkweather, ND. He grew up there and was educated at the Starkweather Public School, graduating with the class of 1955. He entered the United States Army on July 7, 1955 and served his country on overseas duty in Germany. While serving he received medals for Good Conduct and also for Marksmanship. He was honorably discharged from active duty on May 4, 1957 and entered the US Army Reserves. After discharge, Lowell went to work in the oil fields in Tioga for about 1 ½ years then returned to Starkweather and began a 46 year career with the North Dakota Department of Transportation. He worked in maintenance and as a heavy equipment operator and the last 25 years of his career he served as the Starkweather Station Foreman until retiring in 1999. Lowell was united in marriage to Ann Gangl on June 1, 1959 at the Assumption of Mary Catholic Church in Starkweather. They lived, worked and raised their family in Starkweather through the years, moving to Devils Lake in 2009. Lowell was a member of the Assumption of Mary Church in Starkweather and St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus in Devils Lake. He enjoyed membership in the Elks and Eagles Lodges for many years. Pinky served on the Starkweather City Council for over 15 years. Pinky was frequently seen at any and all local sporting events. He loved watching his children and grandchildren participating in sports, but he went as a fan to all the games just to support the team and the community and as a way to keep involved in the lives of the youth in Starkweather. He also was a fan of the Minnesota Twins and Vikings and being at the games was something he enjoyed as often as he could. He loved the outdoors and winter and summer fishing and made sure that Starkweather lawns were well manicured even if he had to do the mowing. Pinky was a dedicated employee. As he cared for the roads from Webster to the Canadian border, he also cared for and provided for his family. He was so proud of each of them and he provided them with a wonderful example of good work ethics, devoted husband and loving father and grandfather. Pinky is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ann; daughter Natalie and her husband, Todd Erickstad, Devils Lake; sons Richard Hunt and his wife, Connie of Cando, ND and Rodney Hunt and his wife Kari also of Devils Lake; eight grandchildren, Nathan (Sara) Erickstad, Danielle (fiancé Josh Trottier) Erickstad, Benjamin Erickstad; Christina Moe, Steven Hunt, Mathew Hunt; Brianne Hunt and Jordan Hunt; great grandchildren, Felicity, Aubrey and Gage Erickstad; brother, Kenny (Linda) Hunt, Devils Lake; sister, Darlene (Johnny) Johnson, Edinburg, ND and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ralph Gangl, Starkweather, Irene Krebsbach and Alice Heisler both Devils Lake, James (Lorena) Gangl, Berthold, ND and Mary Lou (Joe) Belford, Devils Lake; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Carroll, Harold "Buster" and Rick Hunt and sister, Lila Gangl.
