Jane Marie, adopted twin daughter of Paul and Lois (Wick) Lange was born on June 27, 1956 at Fargo, ND. She and her twin sister, Julia were adopted at the age of 13 months and came with the family to Devils Lake. Jane attended Prairie View Elementary School and graduated from Devils Lake Central High School with the class of 1974. She continued her education at Bemidji State, and received her Elementary Education degree from Mayville State College and received her Social Work degree from Minot State College.
Jane was united in marriage to Larry Rurup in 1980 in Devils Lake, they later divorced. They established their home in Cooperstown, ND and later Fargo, ND. While living in Fargo, Jane worked for a local dentist and also at the Dakota Hospital.
Jane moved back to Devils Lake and began a career and also satisfied a passion to help those in the most need. She worked at 4th Corp for several years and after graduating with a degree in Social Work, she worked many years at the Lake Region Human Services Center. She was very devoted to those who were in her care and was so grateful when her dedication to a cause and her extremely hard work resulted in the completion of the Prairie Heights project. Most recently, Jane was the caregiver and companion to Pat Kouba while living in Devils Lake and continued in that role after moving to Minnesota.
Jane was a “people person” in every sense of the word. She loved visiting with friends and family whenever she could and loved the family camping trips. If she did have some alone time, she enjoyed reading. But the role she had so truly come to treasure was that of “Grandma”.
Jane is survived by her sons, Dana L. Rurup of Fargo and Jay (fiancé, Bethany Grant) of Grand Forks; grandchildren, Adrian Paul and Ariel Lynn; her mother, Lois Lange of Lakewood; sister, Julia and her husband Kenneth Volk of Great Falls, MT and brother Rob Lange and his wife, Voni also of Lakewood; two special boys she always looked out for, Josh Agnes and Russell Ward; aunt, Ardis Lange, Mansfield, OH; nieces and nephews, Joshua and Jeffery Volk, Amber Lange, Amanda Matheny, Macy Lange and Zachary Lange; many great nieces and great nephews.
