Mary Evelyn Black, 72 of St. Michael, ND made her journey to heaven on January 26, 2013 at her home in St. Michael surrounded by her loving family who loved her very much. Mary Evelyn was a loving Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, Sister and friend. Mass of the Resurrection for Mary Evelyn will be held on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at 10:00am at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, St. Michael, ND. Fr. Brian Moen will officiate and burial will be in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5:00p.m. until 10:00p.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church and on Thursday from 9:00a.m. until time of the funeral Mass. The Rosary and Scripture Service will be on Wednesday at 7:00p.m. in the church. The procession to St. Michael will leave at 4:00p.m. on Wednesday from Wal-Mart. Serving as Pallbearers for Mary Evelyn will be Claude Black Sr., Sam Merrick, Curtis Black, Dustin Black, Parker Mudgett and Trestan Demarce. Honorary Bearers are Carol Black, Lea Black, Deanna “Jackie” Baker, Elizabeth Littleghost, Helena Littleghost, Lois Leben, Anita Black, Myrna Demarce, Tessie Brown, Joanne Smith, Ernestine Foote, Dan Jetty, Duane Jackson Sr., Johanna Hunt, Connie Rainbow, Larry Holtzman, Josie Lawrence, Roger Brown, Evan White, Marie Baker, Cecilia Jones, Diane Jackson, Dave and Debbie Cavanaugh, Spune and Flo Dunn, Joel and Natalie Redfox, Kristi Black, Jennifer Black, Arlis Littlewind, Sheila Thompson, Inez “Frankie” Chaske, Belva Greyhorn, Mary Cavanaugh, Darlene Geller and Cankdeska Cikana Community College. Mary Evelyn, daughter of Michael & Emma Gourd and Cordelia Little was born on March 11, 1940 at Fort Totten, ND. She grew up in the St. Michael area and graduated from St Mary’s High School in Devils Lake, ND. Mary Evelyn was united in marriage to Charles Black Jr. in St Michael where they also lived and raised their family. Mary Evelyn worked as a Teacher Aide at the Head Start program for a number of years. Mary Evelyn also worked at Sioux Manufacturing, Sweetwater School and Spirit Lake Casino and Resort. Mary Evelyn was a well respected elder by all that knew her. She enjoyed playing bingo and most of all spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her warm, gentle & loving smile will be forever missed by her family. Mary Evelyn is survived by her children, Claude Black Sr., Craig Scott Black Sr., William Black Sr., Connie Black and Sharon (Perry) Black-Mudgett; grand children, Tasha, Terri, Whitney, Danika, Rick Jr., Cameron, Sheldon, Brandon, Ivory, Claude Jr., Iris, Kylah, C.J., William Jr., DaNae, Rabecca, Dalton, Hailey, Megan, Bennett Jr., Anferny, Dagny and Evan Black, Nicole Demarce, P.J., Penny and Parker Mudgett, Alex Leben, Joe Cavanaugh, Dennis Chaske and Heaven Longie; 36 great grandchildren; brother, Pierre Culbertson; sister, Margie Little; sisters in law, Carol Black and Lea Black; brother in law, James (Deanna) Baker; adopted sisters, Myrna Demarce, Tessie Brown, Ernestine Foote and Joanne Smith; adopted bothers, Darrell Smith and Jimmy Smith; many nieces and nephews also survive. Godchildren, Rose Merrick LeBeau, Joannie Black, Curtis “Smokey” Jones and Wayne Black. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Black Jr.; sons, Bennett Black, Richard Black Sr., and Charles Black III; parents, Michael & Emma Gourd and Cordelia Little; grand daughter, Danisha Black
