Lila M. Caye, 94 of Devils Lake formerly of Jamestown, ND died early Thursday morning, January 31, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake where she had been a resident the past 2 ½ years.
Funeral Services for Lila will be held on Monday, February 11, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake with Rev. Jeff Nicla, Pastor of St. Olaf Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery.
Music will be provided by Irving Thompson, vocalist and Lynda Pearson, pianist.
Lila Margaret, daughter of Albert M. and Valborg (Fossen) Anderson was born on May 31, 1918 near Crary, ND. Lila was educated in the rural South Minnewaukan Schools and also attended St. Mary’s Academy and Devils Lake Central High School, graduating with the class of 1937. In her younger years, Lila was very active in 4-H.
Lila lived her childhood years on a farm near Devils Lake. After graduating, she was employed for five years by the Central Telephone Company. In 1945, Lila moved to Bremerton, Washington where she worked in the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. After two years she returned to North Dakota where she worked for five years at the Fairmont Foods Plant. From 1952 to 1963, she was employed by the North Dakota Farmers Union State Office in Jamestown. Even after retiring, Lila was not idle, for several years she sold Avon Products.
For the past several years, Lila made Devils Lake her home. While living in Jamestown, she was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was a confirmed member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake.
Lila is survived by several cousins, including Leonard Birkeland and his family who have been such an important part of Lila’s life these past few years.
