Rebecca Marie, daughter of Eugene B. and Marie (Kirk) Calderwood was born on February 25, 1933 in Devils Lake, ND. She lived and grew up in rural Crary and attended Crary Public School, graduating in 1951. She continued her education at the Agricultural College in Fargo.
Rebecca was united in marriage to Nelson Stave, New Year’s Eve, December 31, 1952 in Paso Robles, California where Nelson was stationed with the United States Army. When Nelson was deployed to Korea, Rebecca came back to North Dakota and stayed with her family. In March of 1954 when Nelson was discharged, the family established their home in Leeds, ND. The family then made Bismarck their home for 11 years, returning to the Lake Region area in September of 1979. As the waters of Devils Lake continued to rise, they were forced to again relocate and were now living in rural Leeds, ND.
Becky was a member of the Eastern Star and very active member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, the WELCA, the quilters and lefse makers and many other activities of the church. She was a seamstress, sewing clothing for herself and her family and also managed to tend to a large vegetable and flower garden each year. Of course the canning and preserving was also part of caring for the garden and she always generously shared the produce with family and friends.
Becky felt she was truly blessed to be a wife and mother of six children. She devoted her life to caring for and nurturing her children and to loving her husband with all her heart. She treasured her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was proud of each and every one of them.
