STANLEY M. SEPTON

Stanley M. Septon, 59 of Grand Forks, ND formerly of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND. Funeral Services for Stanley will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake. Rev. Jamie Desai will officiate and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5:30 p.m. until time of service. Serving as Casket Bearers for Stanley will be Terry Wallace, Patty Wallace, Janie Briss, John Haberlack, Virginia Eisenzimmer, Faye Mertens and Mike Bellmore. There will be Congregational singing accompanied by Audrey Myklebust. Stanley was born in Las Vegas, Nevada on June 8, 1953, the son of Norman and Catherine (Bodine) Septon. The family lived for a time in Nevada, moving to the state of Washington in 1962. In 1971, Stanley and his father moved to Devils Lake and made this home for many years. Mr. Septon passed away on September 25, 1990. Stanley continued to live and work in Devils Lake until 2002, when increasing health needs led to a move to Grand Forks. While living in Grand Forks he worked as a volunteer at Altru Hospital. While living in Devils Lake, Stanley worked for the city beautification department and was mostly responsible for 4th Street and 4th Avenue, which was truly the cleanest junction in the entire city. He also helped the Park Board and other city departments wherever and whenever needed. In 2002, the Devils Lake City Commissioners passed a resolution declaring, Stanley Septon as Honorary Mayor for his efforts in beautification of the downtown business district and was also named an Unsung Hero. Stanley had a passion for sports. He attended every possible sporting event in the city and was a very vocal fan. His cheers and chants were always words of encouragement to the players. He also loved the UND Fighting Sioux, hockey, soccer and basketball to name a few. He was a well known fan around the Grand Forks college event centers. Stanley’s stature was no reflection on his big heart, his big smile and his enormous capacity to love. If you ever met Stanley, you were his friend. Stanley had several sayings that were unique to him and will always be remembered by his dear friends. Stanley is survived by his sister, Sandra Ekstrand of Tacoma, Washington; friends, Terry and Patty Wallace of Devils Lake and his many other friends in Devils Lake and Grand Forks. He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Catherine.
