Phillip “Mark” Brusven, 64 of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Wednesday evening, March 20, 2013 at Sanford Health in Fargo with loving family at his bedside.
Funeral Services for Mark will be held on Monday, March 25, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Devils Lake with Rev. Jamie Desai officiating. Burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the Neathery-Simensen Post #756, Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors Team.
Visitation will be at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. with the family present and visitation on Monday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
Serving as Casket Bearers will be Roger Mayfield, Paul Brusven, Kevin Backstrom, Rene Beauchamp, Allen Backstrom, Don Klein, Albert Wack and Jim Mertens. Honorary Bearers are Mark’s grandchildren, Jayce, Brittany, Wyatt, Cameron, Morgan and Colton.
Phillip Mark, was born in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota on May 25, 1948 to Hans and Gladys (Varholdt) Brusven. He was reared and educated in Pelican Rapids, graduating from Pelican Rapids High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1968 where he was an aviation electrician. He spent three tours off the coast of Vietnam on the USS Ranger. He was honorably discharged from active duty on December 20, 1971 and was the recipient of several medals of commendation.
In 1968, Mark was united in marriage to Linda Laugen in Elizabeth, Minnesota. After living in Minnesota and North Dakota, they settled in Devils Lake where they raised their three children. Mark worked for Office Systems, Inc and Midwest Business Systems as a customer service representative. Because of his helpful personality, he made many friends both at his job and in his personal life.
Mark enjoyed wood working, fixing things and spending time at Wood Lake with his friends and family. His grandchildren were his pride and joy and he especially enjoyed special family time with them at the lake. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Mark is survived by his wife, Linda of 45 years; a daughter, Kim and her husband, Jeff Trana of Devils Lake, sons, Bob Brusven and his wife, Jessica of Shelby, Montana and Jeff Brusven and his wife, Amelia of Tonganoxie, Kansas and foster son, Dan Steinke of Devils Lake; six grandchildren, Jayce Trana; Brittany, Wyatt and Cameron Brusven; Morgan and Colton Brusven; his brother, Jerry Brusven and his wife Joan of Elizabeth, Minnesota; brother-in-law, Cliff Mayfield of Erhard, Minnesota; sister-in-law JoAnne (Daryl) Bjur of Fargo, ND and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Mavis Mayfield and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Orville and Cynthia Laugen.
