ORPHA S. CUMMINGS-BOHNET

Orpha S. Cummings-Bohnet, 99 of Devils Lake, formerly of Minot, ND passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake. Graveside Services for Orpha will be held on Friday, June 28, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the Rosehill Cemetery Chapel, Minot, ND with burial to follow. Orpha, daughter of Gus and Gunda Christianson was born on January 27, 1914 at Minot, North Dakota where she was reared and educated. She was a baptized and confirmed member of Zion Lutheran Church and was later a life member of Congregational Church in Minot. She was united in marriage to Fred Cummings in 1932. They established their home in Minot, where they lived, worked and raised their family. Orpha worked at Woolworth’s for several years. Fred passed away in 1962. Orpha then married Clifford Bohnet and he passed away in 1977. After Clifford died, Orpha moved to Devils Lake to live with her son, Rich. Orpha devoted her life to loving and caring for her family. She was an accomplished seamstress, enjoyed needlepoint and all types of needlework and crafts. She had a great love for flowers and gardening. And no matter the season, Orpha loved to bird watch and took great pride and determination in naming each bird species. Orpha was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren and they all brought her great joy and happiness. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Orpha is survived by her children, Robert Cummings and his wife, Dianne of Williston, ND, Rick Cummings of Devils Lake and Gloria and her husband, Ray Hall of Washington; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; eight great great grandchildren; sister, Doris Schussler, Missoula, Montana; many nieces and nephews with a special place in her heart for niece, Sharon Schestler of Minot and her special friend and neighbor, Carol Robertson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband and father of their children, Fred Cummings and husband, Clifford Bohnet; daughter, Beverly (James) Skeem of Seattle, Washington; son, Melvin “Bud” Cummings of Kent, Washington; brother, Mel Christianson; sisters, Helen Doyle and Grace Hoff and dear friend, Lois Miller.
