June Riggin, 91, of Devils Lake, passed away on January 14, 2013 at Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 13th, 2013 at the Gilbertson Funeral Home in Devils Lake. Rev. Jeff Nicla, Pastor of St. Olaf Lutheran Church will officiate and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery.
Music will be provided by Kevin Regan, vocalist and Audrey Myklebust, pianist.
June Lois Hoven, daughter of Henry and Mary (Aaker) Hoven, was born on July 27, 1921, in Cooperstown ND. Henry passed away on March 5, 1926, when June was 5 years old. Mary married Leon Swenson on July 11, 1928.
June was a lifelong member of St Olaf Lutheran Church and graduated from Devils Lake High School, in 1939.
June married Leslie L. Riggin on July 11, 1941. They had five children: Dennis, Rory, Kevin, Kathleen & Maureen “Rene”.
Throughout her life June enjoyed golfing and bowling and attended many National Bowling Tournaments with “the girls”. In her later years she belonged to the “Grandma Dart League” and thoroughly enjoyed spending this time with her friends.
June enjoyed visiting with her family, especially in a back yard on a nice summer day, where she could watch and listen to the birds. To some of her great-grandchildren she was known as “Grandma Chirpy” because of her large collection of ceramic birds and her love for all kinds of birds. She was so proud of her children, grand-children, great grand-children and great great-grandchildren.
Survivors are children: Dennis (Karen) Riggin, Rory (Charlotte) Riggin, Kevin (Ann) Riggin, Kathleen Riggin, all of Devils Lake and Maureen (Dale) Regan of Fargo. Grandchildren: Lance (Tammy) Riggin, Jeff Riggin, Cindy (Donny) Hanson, Dan (Jill) Van Winkel, Kristel (Mark) Peterson, Kamie (Rob) Kueneman, Kori (Travis) Van Liere, Katie Veralrud, Krystal Veralrud, Jesse (Sara) Regan and Brianne (Jake) Ansberry; sister-in-law, Lavonne Swenson of Burnsville, MN; 29 great-grandchildren with another one joining the family in June, 2013; 3 great-great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by life-long friend, Marcella Nimmo.
June was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Mary; step-father, Leon; husband; 3 sisters (2 in infancy) and Helen Hoven Christianson; a brother, Donald Swenson; grandson, Lanny and great-grandson Matthew.
