DONALD F. LABARRE

Donald F. LaBarre, 63, of Devils Lake, ND passed away at his home in the loving care of his family on Monday, April 1, 2013. Mass of Christian Burial for Don will be on Friday, April 5, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake, Fr. C. F. Wilhelm, celebrant. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Thursday, April 4, 2013 from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. with a Rosary led by the Knights of Columbus and Scripture Service by Fr. Prasad Marneni at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. An additional visitation will be held one hour preceding the funeral Mass. Don LaBarre, the loving son of Lorion & Eileen (Reardon) LaBarre was born on December 9, 1949 in Devils Lake, ND. Don attended school in rural Devils Lake and graduated from Starkweather High School. Don was united in marriage to Barbara J. Schneider on July 24, 1971 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, rural Crary, ND. Don attended Lake Region Junior College and Mayville State College graduating with a Mathematics Major and Physics Minor in 1972. Upon graduation, Don was a school teacher at Midway High School, Inkster, ND, a manager of the Rhorville grain elevator, and then spent the majority of his career as the owner & manager of Don’s Rental, Devils Lake, ND. Don was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, and was involved in organizations such as the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. In addition to practicing his faith, Don enjoyed spending time at the lake with friends and family. He enjoyed socializing in group activities like riding ATV, camping, hunting, fishing, playing cards, and games. In his last few years, Don enjoyed exploring the United States by automobile. Don is survived by his children, Jeff LaBarre and his wife Michelle (Frietsch) and grandsons Jacob and Ryan of East Peoria, IL, Neil LaBarre and his wife Robbyn (Gau) of West Fargo, ND, Bethany Elshaug and her husband Aaron of Devils Lake, ND; siblings, Delores Stromme, Mesa, AZ, Janet (Jim) Volk, Seattle, WA, LaVonne (Dean) Ummel, Brownell, KS, Jim (Ginny) LaBarre, Eau Claire, WI, Carol (Bill) McDonald, Deering, ND, Betty (Gordon) Mathiason, Caldwell, ID, Linda Steinhaus, Marinette, WI, and Lori Dennis, Fargo, ND; his mother-in-law Irene (Schaan) Schneider; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Clem (Linda) Schneider, Cathy (Bill) Cox, Robert (Vickie) Schneider, Richard (Pam) Schneider, Ron (Shelley) Schneider, Bonita (Bill) Burdick, and Shirley (Joe) Tavis; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Don was preceded in death by his loving wife Barbara LaBarre, mother Eileen LaBarre, father Lorion LaBarre, brother Bob (Lee) LaBarre, sisters Judy Berg and Marie (Dale) Olson, brother-in-laws Gerald Schneider; Pat (Cindy) Schneider; niece Alicia (James) Burdick Uriell, father-in-law Anthony Schneider, and brother-in-law Floyd Stromme.
