FRANKLIN JOHN SPOTTEDBIRD

Franklin J. SpottedBird, 41 of Fort Totten, ND passed away early Tuesday morning, April 16, 2013 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, with loving family at his side. The Wake for Franklin will be held on Friday, April 26, 2013 at the Fort Totten Recreation Center beginning at 5:00 p.m. The procession to Fort Totten will leave on Friday at 4:00 p.m. from Wal-Mart. The Funeral Service for Franklin will also be at the Fort Totten Recreation Center on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Charles Leute O.P. officiating. Deacon Tony McDonald and Robert Greywater Jr. will also be a part of Franklin’s services. Franklin will be laid to rest in St. Jerome’s Catholic Cemetery, rural Fort Totten later this spring. Active Casket Bearers for Franklin will be Dallas Littlewind, Marlo TwoHearts, John Sherman, Sam McKay, Raynard Iceman, Steve Stone and Manuel Littlewind Sr. Pallbearers will be Jeff Azure, Vernon SpottedBird Jr., Perry Fassett, Robbie Greywater, Billy Tomahawk Jr., Shane Peltier, Donovan Robertson, Roger Alberts, Shobie Shaw and Clifford Jerome. Honorary Pallbearers will be Leland SpottedBird and family, Chuck SpottedBird and family, Elmira GreyHawk and family, Ron Lee Carpetier and family, Lester FastHorse, Lorna Martin, Delima Greywater and family, Renae and Bimbo LeNoir, Flo Peltier and family, Lois Littlewind and family, Edith Peltier and family, Andrea Iceman and family, Debra Cavanaugh and family, Kevin Mindt and Donna Baker, Solomon and Sharon Peltier and family, Cameron Howard, Faron Howard, Devonne Robertson and Robert Cavanaugh. Special thanks to the IHS Clinic, Fort Totten Ambulance Service, Gilbertson Funeral Home and very special thanks to Altru Hospital 5th and 6th Floor Staff, CHR Drivers and Grand Forks Altru Dialysis Staff. If we forgot to name someone, it was not intentional, please forgive us. Music will be provided by Tony and Vina McDonald and all Drum Groups are welcomed to share their songs in memory of Franklin. Franklin John, son of Joyce Tomahawk-Peltier and Kenneth SpottedBird Sr. was born on March 5, 1972 at Devils Lake, ND. He lived his younger years in Brockton, Montana, graduating from the 8th grade there. The family moved to the Fort Totten area and Franklin attended school at Four Winds High School. He played basketball in school and he continued to play the game into adulthood. If he wasn’t playing the game himself, he enjoyed watching others play. . Franklin worked at DTI (Dakota Tribal Industries) and at the Snack Bar at the Spirit Lake Casino until health problems forced him to retire. Franklin loved driving around the countryside and stopping in to visit with family and friends. Being with his son was such a special time for him. Franklin is survived by his mother, Joyce Peltier; brothers, Vernon SpottedBird Sr., Kenneth SpottedBird and Kevin SpottedBird; sisters, Tara SpottedBird, Kenda SpottedBird and Janel SpottedBird; special friend, Rhonda Greywater; son, Eric John Martin; daughter, Diane SpottedBird; adopted brothers, Robbie Greywater, Perry Fassett Sr. and Mark Fassett Sr.; adopted sister, Janelle Fassett; aunties, Tammy Allery and Lorraine Michael; uncles, Frank Tomahawk Jr. and John Sherman; grandmothers, Stella Cavanaugh, Doris SpottedBird, Catherine SpottedBird and Victoria Joshua; grandpas, Leland SpottedBird, Josie Lawrence and Solomon Sherman; godparents, Myrna DeMarce and the late Sylvester DeMarce. Our love to all of Franklin’s Nieces and Nephews and all Nephews living in Brocken and Poplar, Montana. Franklin touched our hearts in a special way and we will always love and miss him. Franklin was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth SpottedBird Sr.; sister, Karlene SpottedBird; brother, Kenneth SpottedBird Jr.; grandparents, Frank and Josephine Tomahawk, Louisa Sherman, Viola Drum, Josephine BlackDog, MAelvine SpottedBird and Carol Greyhawk; nieces, Kiara Green and Julia Diaz; aunties, Janice Tomahawk, Charlotte Tomahawk, Lorraine Tomahawk and Cheryl Tomahawk; uncles, Veryl Allen Tomahawk and William Tomahawk Sr.
